Summer 05' Phase 2 numbers

Very interesting Phase 2 numbers...No change in the top 5 with KYGO & KQKS still #1 and #2 respectively but down a few tenths each, rounding the top 5 KOA #3, KBCO #4 and KOSI #5. KOOL and The Fox up, Interesting to note that Alice went up a bit, Mix pretty much stays even and Jack down a bit. KTCL rose well KBPI fell a bit but both still even with the rock and alternative crowd.

Looking at the spanish stations, KBNO still steller and up, KXPK up a bit while KJMN stood even and of course we can't forget KMGG which has been brought down to an even worse level falling even more down and down....

Anyone else thoughts about the Summer Phase 2 numbers?? I know it's just a phase but we get full summer numbers in a month and today is the start of the Fall book. Does anyone think this may have an impact on what formats we may hear on the new freq KBRU 101.5 & KSIR 107.1?? Who BTW are still testing and I thought just maybe they would launch sooner then later especally with the fall book starting today.

Let's discuss....

Since Mega isn't doing that great, I wonder if they would be better off shifting to the gold based Mexican format La Preciosa? CC has had great success with Preciosa in several different markets. With AM KBNO in the top 10, it seems there is a lot of opportunity for a well programmed Spanish language FM in Denver.

Mega not so good ratings, why not just flip back 2 Top 40 as Z95.7 or sell 95.7 to Entercom Media or Citadel. To Make a better top 40 station, with successful ratings. Calling itself Q95.7 B 95.7 or K 95.

I can't see CC going back to a format that wasn't successful for them. I also doubt they would sell the station. But for discussion sake, if they sold it to Entercom they wouldn't take it Top 40 because it would hurt Alice. KALC has seen an uptick since Kiss switched to Mega.

I still say Preciosa is the way to go. When you see an AM Spanish station KBNO in the top 10 and beating several general market FMs, a "market correction" is in order.

Citadel wouldn't be interested as they're not in the market nor have they (to the best of my knowledge) ever been in the market.

Infinity would probably be interested however with the concept of talk radio on FM quickly becoming a thing of the past, I doubt Infinity would really push it. JP would most likely interested as they've been wanting to program their own "Mix" station for the last several years. And 95.7 would give them the outlet to do it as it wouldn't be too far away from KYGO 98.5 either.

Beyond that, I would bet Emmis would probably re-enter the markek and snatch it up if they could land an AM as well (like 1150?). Short of that, I don't think anyone would notice (much less care) if Clear Channel just simply put a fork in it & take it off the air if they didn't move "SUNNY" to 95.7 and move 97.9 back up to Cheyenne. This would give them the ability to resurrect the old KSYY call letters (Are they in use by anyone?) as well.

Just a few thoughts :)

Cheers for now :)
______________

Radio? Uhh.....What's THAT?? :)

Yeah, Clear Channel is going to sell a full power FM to a competitor.

I can hear the conversation now: "hey, we're not doing that well with it right now, let's sell it to Infinity so they can use it against us"....

All a ridiculous thought.

I would love to see CC send 97.9 back to Cheyenne. I'm sure with the lack of success of "Sunny" that CC has regretted the day they moved the signal south, as the old "KING FM" rocker on 97.9 had been the number one station in the Cheyenne market for quite some time before the move. The public relation backlash of CC moving one of Cheyenne's FM's to Ft. Collins caused CC to lose its top position in Cheyenne when Appaloosa's oldies KRRR started edging out CC's country KOLZ "KOLT FM" for the high spot. Lots of listeners up in Wyoming are still bitter over CC messing with 97.9, but I wonder if someday Cheyenne and Ft. Collins will "melt" into one big market, as most radio signals from one city reach the other. In other words, CC could probally make 97.9 a "Cheyenne" station again and still keep a lot of Colorado listeners.

Ridiculous. You're stating that listeners left KOLZ over what
CC did with another radio station? That defies all logic.

"I'm not listening to that country station anymore, even though
its still here, because that company took a station that I don't
listen to and moved it to Colorado..."

Yeah, right.

Perhaps the timing of the move and the books was coincidence, but at the same time KUAD (K99's) numbers in Cheyenne also suddenly picked up. Coincidence this time? I doubt it...Remember the few non-CC stations up there made big on-air brouhaha's over the move and fueled a lot of anti-sentiment. (Example from one competitor: "We're not going anywhere but in your ear.") Whatever the case, I'm sure CC is still kicking themselves in the @$$ for carrying out the move.

Let me give you all some insights.. 97.9 isn't going anywhere ever.. And don't forget about their BIG move next month to their new building along 1-25 and Crossroad. I am sure allot of people would love to see 97.9 back the way it was in the early and late 90's. But lets get real, that won't happen what it is, it well stay this way for ever. It could cost CC to much money and time since they would have to wait on approval from the FCC to redew everything. For KSYY why not go to the FCC website and look in their database? I am sure those call letters are proably there some where with some station.
But the point is this.
97.9 is forever here in Northern Colorado it's not going anywhere. And maybe if the ratings don't pick up by next summer for MEGA that who knows what CC would do for 95.7. I don't think they well go back to SUnny at all, since the format SUNNY SUCKS and never pulled in any ratings. And I thought talk FM was the norm of FM nowdays? Chicago has an FM talk station, KSL is now on FM with another talk FM station. Who says FM talk is the thing of the past???
