Summer 2005 Phase 2 Ratings: A Tie For Number 1

It's a great month for Emmis as they own WRKS which is the greatest gainer and ties WLTW for Number 1 along with the popular WQHT (even this month) and second greatest gainer WQCD. Out of stations that changed formats this year, WXRK is down a little, WCAA/WZAA is even (now the ratings call them Hispanic Urban), and WCBS-FM is way down.

WCBS-FM has fallen below WNEW and now takes the the title "Lowest rated full power NYC fm station" from WNEW who has held it for 5 years. No movement this time for 'NEW. Great move Infinity.

Jack sucks huh? Yes, lets get more 250 song formats. That's the ticket. I Got You Babe 10 times a day. More radio for sheep.

Yes, the two biggest stories of this trend are at the top and the bottom. WRKS shooting up to a #1 tie was a surprise. Does anyody have any theories on why they are doing so good or why they got such a big boost?

As for Jack and their lackluster start, there is much discussion about them in the thread above this.

Kiss Tying Lite For 1st: A Theory

Ask and ye shall receive: Note that WLTW was also down a little bit. In fact, they've fallen steadily in the last two books and previous two trends, while remaining on top. We know how Lite likes to mix in uptempo songs here and there - defying the name of the station, perhaps, but it's basically the equivalent to playing with the house's money - in the case of Lite, they couldn't really do anything wrong. Maybe listeners are starting to tire of hearing "Born to Be Alive" every other day, I have no idea...

Whatever the case, Lite will always be a winner financially... But if they want to maintain their stronghold atop the ratings, they've better think twice about --- oh, who am I to give them advice, they'll figure it out, somehow.

As far as Kiss' dramatic surge, time will tell whether or not it's a fluke. We all remember when WBLS was in the Top 5 for two minutes several years ago.<P ID="signature">______________
