Summer book out today

Anybody want to guess the positions of your favorite station?

I'll bet WLW is number one. Call me crazy, but I'm going with that one!
Edited by Oscar on 10/20/05 04:39 PM.

Middletown's 105.9 WPFB will beat 1530 WCKY for last.

WCKY Up Significantly

> Middletown's 105.9 WPFB will beat 1530 WCKY for last.

WCKY actuallly beat out thirteen other rated stations (including four other Clear Channel stations) and was up more than 60 percent from the Spring book.

Most of those stations are fringe area market signals except for sports 1360 Homer WSAI a CC station which does poorly in the summer anyway due to the reds being carried on WLW. That should change now that the Bengals are doing well. WCKY should be doing better for a 50kw am signal but it may or may not be living up to expectations. Time will tell I guess.
Edited by microbob on 10/21/05 12:58 AM.

Re: WCKY Up Significantly

Looking at other AA markets, it's performing comparably 12+. Even in liberal San Francisco, "The Quake" gets in the lower one shares, as does the NYC flagship WLIB. Almost a 2.0 in Denver on The Zone and not quite a 1 share in LA on KTLK. Barely shows in Boston, though. I'll bet WCKY has a lot of out of market nighttime listening until the preachers come on.

It probably has better demos than WSAI did...or does anyone know?

B105 has really taken off since Marty took it over. Warm and KISS are back where they always are. WGRR and MOJO getting tighter. Q and MIX pretty close, but MIX continues to drop. (When's the Christmas music starting?) WAQZ really starting to fall. Is it the Howard Stern "rats deserting the ship" before the ship sinks? MAX still showing up, but no better than the old formats did. Everything else is what you'd expect. Even WBOB showed up!

B 105 sounds great. Much better the 965 The Star. 973FreeFM after stern goes? WBOB going CCM possible. I'd like to hear MAX but I can't. KISS Sounds like the WIZ to me. MIX ia already running promos for XMAS Music. I'm guessing November 1st. Q needs to play whatever. I miss those Whatever weekends.

Re: WCKY Up Significantly

In DC, WWRC went from barely there to a no-show. Hard to believe you can't get an audience for that stuff in the cradle of liberalism.

Demos or not, if you don't have enough ears, it's hard to sell. The oldies format didn't bill much but it didn't cost anything either. It was probably not the most efficient use of the signal but it was cheap. CC understands cheap. Look at what they've spent on programming and promotion for WCKY.

I don't think the WCKY target is responsible for very many quarter-hours on any station and I'd bet nearly all of the target has NEVER set their AM buttons. Hard to convert listeners that aren't there or attract new ones that don't know you are.

In one of the most conservative markets in America, WCKY is getting just what it deserves. Coastal radio doesn't work in flyover country. It's sister here in Columbus, WTPG, barely cracks a 1 share as well.

What about San Diego?

I've heard people say San Diego may even be more conservative than Cincinnati with the military presence there. KLSD flirts with 2 shares there. Although it is the coast...

Not if you've ever tried to tune in the station.

Crappiest signal imaginable. About a month ago, I wasn't able to get a listenable signal on the DX-396 in my hotel room ten miles due east of the transmitter.
______________

KQKE has basically tied sister CC conservative-talker KNEW with share over 1 in 12+. WLIB is also over 1 in 12+.
