Summer Book

Anyone with predictions about Friday's book?

Jack up (although I like the sound of Jack off better). Plus they've started more ads to help with the fall book.

Stern has been down in other markets, will that happen here? If so, Rivers will be up.

Is it possible for KIRO to go lower? Their boring morning numbers will slip a little more.

You have to give Jack credit for hitting Seattle by storm and generated some impressive numbers in their 1st few books, but if you pay close attention to some of the other markets that have had the format longer (Dallas, Minnesota) their numbers are slowly declining. Not to mention the JACK station in NYC is in the toilet with no signs of life. Seeing the pattern of decline in other markets and the onslaught of bad publicity with the launch of JACK in New York, the crew at Infinity Seattle have to be slightly concerned.

My predictions were made four months ago. It appears 90 percent
will come true. KBKS normally has huge summers, but KLSY was
able to hurt them more than I thought. Make no mistake KLSY will
have a terrible book, but they will take KBKS down with them. I
sincerely apologize to iknowitall fans that I cannot be 100% on
this book. No one is more embarassed than me. I should have seen that
KLSY would hurt KBKS. Thanks for the emails of support. I will continue.

JACK will be the big story of the summer book. Who will it
impact the most. My predictions:

1. Both HOT/AC's will feel the affect. (KLSY is already a non-factor,
but it will affect KPLZ too.)
2. KBSG will feel the effect
3. KZOK will feel the effect
4. KJR-FM's growth will stall.
5. KRWM will feel the effect

25-54 is where JACK will hurt these five stations. My prediction is JACK
will finish top 3 in the demo. Count on it. But it will be fleeting.

How long will this last? My prediction is this summer will be
JACK's biggest book. They will begin to slowly decline in the
Fall and by next summer 96.5 will join Dallas, Denver and the other
JACK wastelands. Such is the fate of a niche format. How do I do it?
On my worst days I am 90% right...why? BECAUSE IKNOWITALL!

peace out

I can predict books with 90% accuracy four months ahead of time, I can
predict the effect of JACK with 100% accuracy. Folks, its a gift, one
I am proud to share, even when I make the occasional mistake. It is my
privlege to serve you.

IIRC - the Point did the same thing: Hit strong the first book, then started the slow fade. Sorta like the ending of "Hey Jude".

Jack-FM, much like the 80s format is fun the first few times you hear it. But for the vast majority, "oh wow" becomes "OH NO!!" VERY quickly.

Agreed. JACK will be impressive, but will fade quickly.
Having watched the first JACK in Denver and have friends
working at JACK in Dallas, it starts quick and fades even
quicker.
Iknowitall may be right that HOT/AC KPLZ will take the
brunt of the hit, much like the HOT/AC stations in Dallas,
and Denver did. Oldies may feel the pain too. Both will
recover in a book or two.
KLSY will be spared because of its current music, younger shift
and yes that is why KBKS is suffering. KLSY will beat KBKS in
older demos, but Mike Preston is a solid competitor and this
battle won't be decided for a year or two in the younger demos.
KUBE is the winner this summer, but next year KLSY or KBKS will
give KUBE a run for their money.
KMPS will finish number one again. Will anyone take them on? Stern
will also finish strong. What will KISW do? My bet is Entercom takes
KNDD, BUZZ or KISW Country. The remaining two stations will be stronger.
My bet is KNDD goes country, KISW goes more active rock to get their audience
and the BUZZ locks up FM-TALK. Just speculation.

Summer ratings are in and KIRO is now ranked #3 overall and almost 2 ratings points above 16th ranked KVI...KIRO's closest talk rival. All predictions of KIRO's demise were grossly exaggerated. KIRO is firmly established as the # 1 talk radio station in Seattle.

KVI is NOT kiro's competition, kptk is (air america). ktth is kvi's competitor and they are a life support system for rush.

BTW:
Your talking 12+ numbers. when was the last time you saw a 12 yearold buy a car?
KIRO is not #1 anything, other than 12+. Check the book.

And where is KIRO #1 12+?

Nice that anyone can get excited about "KIRO being the #1 Talk station." But they're way off being the #1 station as they used to be for so many years before they lost the M's.

KVI is a Seattle talk station. KIRO is a Seattle talk station. If you think KIRO and KVI are not competitors...you must be smoking that good weed.

Nobody posting to this board has any idea what the Arbitron 25-54 demographic numbers are for Seattle radio stations. So please stop implying that you do.
