I hope they do NOT put those stupid boring shows on ME-TV again,Shows like: Mary Tylor Moore, Bob Newheart, and I love Lucy Showduring the evening prime-time hours. They should eliminate I Love Lucy because they show it at least 5 time a day! They should double up on "All in The Family" and Double up on "Sanford & Son".in other words 1 hour of "All in The Family" and 1 hour of "Sanford & Son".Those are the two of my favorite shows, including along with Batman. There should be a 1 hour of Batman also.
I like ME-TV last year in the summer. They played almost all comedy. But they've done some advertising of the schedule already.I see they will have "Gidge" at noon and bring back "The Monkees" at 12:30pm.The afternoon line up brings back "The Facts of Life" and moves some more of the same around again.I also saw them advertise "Mary Tyler Moore" to return at 11pm.Shame we can't get something new (well new old ) But even the same old shows shuffled around is better than most.
There is so much old shows that havn't been on in awhile. Like Love that bob, The outer limites (B&W) the half hour hitchcocks, Hazel, Maybery RFD, Gomer Pyle, F-troop, My Three Sons... Man I can go on forever... Why don't they get some of them
this station's schedule is LIGHT YEARS ahead of what LPTV's are doingin most of the country. Where I live we get a steady diet of homeshopping, screaming preachers, and time-share infomercials starringErik Estrada. If an LPTV in our area ran a schedule like this, someoneout there might actually watch it!
Well as much as well all hate to admit it, people DO watch infomercials. They are very big business. They have coined the subword "info-tainment"Let's face it I know people that watch the weather channel for hours or HSN. These are not exactly, great entertainment but it worksAs for posting about WWME, basically it's the only thing in Chicago TV. That is why I have long advocated converting Chicago TV board to the Midwest TV board. For instance Wisconson Radio has a lot of TV posts in it.Chicago's TV stations are mostly owned by the networksCBS(2) NBC(5) ABC(7) FOX(32 and 50) I (38) TELE(44) UNIV(66 and 60) and if you consider Channel 9 WGN-Tribune (WB)This means everything is dictated to the stations. Not a lot of room for individuality. Unlike New York or LA, Chicago stations mearly follow the whims of NY or LA. The network O&O stations in Chicago merely tow the line. Thus there isn't a lot to talk about, except the one independent WCIU and it's sub stations one of which is WWME-CA
There is a lot of talk about WWME because its a great station. It reminds me of the old WGN or WFLD or even WSNS. back in the 70s. All those stations are now big corp. Networks and won't show "Classic" Television or local programing (other than news).
Just think of our discussion: The most original thing on TV is the rpogramming of old TV Shows! Why more discussion of some of the original programming that WTTW does is surprising. As an example, Ramsey Lewis's Legends of Jazz is a fairly good low budget endeavor. It's done in Chicago for national distribution.
Sounds similar to what Weigel is doing in Milwaukee. They own WMLW-CA (Ch. 41). They started programming lots of local college sports (UW Madison and Milwaukee, Marquette) and used this to muscle their way on to local cable systems (It's on channel 7 on Time Warner's system). Ch. 41 is programmed like a typical independent station (new and old syndicated stuff and movies). Also time-shift shows and newscasts from their sister station, CBS 58.
I gotta say, I admire their saavy. At least they're doing something with their low-power signal. Hell, some stations around town don't do anything worthwhile with their full-power signal.
