Summer or winter conditions?

I have a question that I could probably figure out, but wanted to ask the experts. I'm in Australia at the moment in the top of summer. This is usually not considered prime MW dxing time. However, a good bit of the distant DX targets for me are in Asia, north of the equator and in their winter. Aside from the lightning static issues in the typical summer (not as bad here as in the US in my experience so far), should I still expect good DX conditions across the equator?

I know there are ultralight MW DX guys here in the NW US who swear that some of the best reception of TP signals from your part of the world arrive here during spring and summer.

It has to do with the overall paths of darkness. So, even though summer isn't the best overall AM DX period in the northern hemisphere, the extended period of darkness in the southern hemisphere during that time helps the signals cross the equator and cross the Pacific. That's their theory, and some of their logs prove it out.
