Summer Phase One

TakeItFromMe said:
Not sure what you mean dude. Six months ago I predicted big changes and
growth at the WOLF, KLSY, JACK and KBKS. A new breed of talent and PD's.
Let's see what has happened:

1. WOLF has had 5-6 six up trends and an up Winter and Spring book. Seems good to me. KMPS is off 20% in ratings and billing for the year. Good battle.

2. KLSY flips to MOVIN and each of its trends were better than any trend of KLSY. They launched well and will add airstaff.

3. KBKS named a new PD, revamped mornings somewhat and have a new afternoon show. We shall see what happens. Might bet is by Fall they get stronger, even without a morning show flip.

4. JACK is off, I'll admit that. Now is the time to add airstaff and move forward. JACK is being held back because INFINITY has to spend so much money defending KMPS and KBKS.

Seems like I was pretty accurate in analyzing the market, even though I haven't been here a decade. Biggest miss was in mornings, where the older morning shows have a much more loyal following. Doesn't mean change isn't in the air, but it just may take more time.

Does it hurt your legs to back pedal so much?

Some of what takeitfromme says is "out there" and I hesitate to voice support for the fear of being hooked with some of his dumber posts. I do think there is not much merit to 12+ and that trends are a good indicator of early success. Such was the case with JACK, WOLF and MOVIN in this market. Each launched well. That means people tuned in! That means good marketing and a good launch! Give JACK, WOLF and MOVIN an A for their launch.

The next step is converting these casual tune-ins to P-1 fans. That is the long term challenge. It is not a 12+ battle, it is a battle for 25-54 demos. JACK is declining after a strong start so give them a D for the Next step. WOLF is a question mark with only one down trend, if a pattern develops they will also fail the next step. MOVIN is still going up 25-54, but is a long way from getting any grade yet on the next step.

What is interesting is that JACK opted to not have talent, launched well and now is dying off. WOLF opted to use talent, launched well and now may be dying off. MOVIN opts not to have talent for the initial launch and then plans to add them later to continue the growth curve. We will see if it works.

Jack

Many seem to forget that the whole jockless schtick is a part of the Jack format. It ain't just about the music.

"It ain't just about the music"

Are you kidding me? It's only about the music! What else do they offer the listener? And ratings wise, how has that been working for them lately? I'm a big fan of all the music they play, but I'm seeing in the long run they will never be able to hang with the big boys of this market unless they offer more than just a jukebox.

Momma may know a thing or two yet I still think that it is not fair to compare the launch of JACK, WOLF and MOVIN. The common denominator is they were all new in the last year yet the methodology from one to the next differ.

How can you say that the Wolf is falling short ? Off of one trend ? C'mon that's just goofy talk. One trend and everyone gets their panites in a bunch either way with any station. One trend and Movin was #1 in Seattle - that's what the banner add on allaccess would have you think. One trend the Wolf is done. I don't think so.

SHOW ME SOMETHING FIRST !!! Tell me your stations story over a (DJDAN) 4 BOOK PERIOD.

What I wanna know is can Jack rebound from the free fall. CBS is sorta in a hard spot with Wolf attacking KMPS and MOVIN and KUBE fighting KBKS so where do the $'s go for Marketing, etc ??? Becky, Marcus, or Jack ???

Just my guess but don't bet against Eric and Shelly. They are solid and CC has the money and resources to out do anyone in a pissing match. CBS may come close but I doubt Sandusky has the $$$ at the end of the day to compete at that level for that long. Sorta like the KC Royals vs. The Yankess and Red Sox ya know ???

Fall book will be the one to watch when it's all said and done........
