Sun to Set on Acoustic Sunrise

Word over at Colony Square is that new DAVE-FM PD Mike Wheeler is going to pull the plug on Acoustic Sunrise. The program has been a buzz kill on an already anemic station and a total ripoff of "Organic X" on 99X. Yet another blunder by ex-PD and current Widespread Panic roadie Michelle Engle.

In other DAVE-FM news, I ran the Peachtree Road Race yesterday and enjoyed seeing/hearing all the radio stations on Peachtree Road except one; DAVE-FM. The funny thing is that DAVE-FM (and V103) are located on the course and could have set something up at 14th and Peachtree. Apparently, ex-PD and current Widespread Panic roadie Michelle Engle thought that bringing attention to a station that caters to 25-54 year-olds is a bad thing. Oh by the way, a majority of the runners were...25-54 year-old "non-ethnics" who would listen to DAVE-FM.

She's gone Mr. Millman. Maybe it's time to move on.

I'm hoping Wheeler makes some changes in morning drive. Bring in Wachs, O&A, or whatever...I'm looking for a reason to listen to 92.9.

Again with the O&A talk? Folks, O&A are not, repeat NOT, going to DAVE FM. They are a male skewing morning show that has poor ratings in virtually every market they're in. How would putting them on DAVE possibly be a smart move? If you want to hear them they are already on satellite for their 12 listeners around the country to enjoy. 92.9 needs some market familiarity at this point, not ANOTHER thing people are going to take a year to warm up to. There are plenty of known commodities in town from which to choose.

So the highest listened to channel on XM (per Eric Logan - VP of Programming) has 12 listeners? It's nice to see someone so informed. O&A's ratings are moving up and they started from scratch on CBS over a year ago. Do you think any morning show can just come in and have a 10-share? What is the current arbitron rating for DAVE at the 6-10am slot? I am sure O&A has higher numbers in other cities than that trainwreck at DAVE.

First, the phrase "12 listeners" is called sarcasm, but saying something is the highest rated thing on XM doesn't mean much. XM is not mass appeal. Relatively very few people have it. You have to go by how they do on terrestrial radio, and in that arena their numbers are unimpressive. Also - and I can't believe I have to explain this - even if they did have good numbers they're NOT A GOOD FIT FOR DAVE. DAVE skews female. By your logic, Project should make a run at the Bert Show since, after all, they have a 10 share. If the market was never deemed right for Howard (and I assure you, that research was done), it's not gonna be right for O&A. Southerners hate acidic New Yorkers. Hell, they couldn't even deal with Fred Toucher.

As Mr. Alan Sneed once told me, that time of day is a "cume wasteland".

Perhaps they are preparing to bring on Dr. Dimento in that time slot? ;D ::) :D

Also, is it possible the the GM and Promo Director may not want to promote an event that Cox (Newspaper, cross-promoting on all of their broadcast properties) owns deeply, even if it is a HUGE Georgia event?

Oh, and I am told I must ask the question, how will this affect Q100? ;)

Even though I have XM, I would listen to O&A on 92.9 for traffic.

You have a point about O&A not being a good fit for DAVE, but it looks like DAVE's not really a good fit for Atlanta. Talk about unimpressive...I thought CBS was looking to make serious changes with a new PD. How many female skewing stations do we need?

My first choice would be a reunited RG’s show, but that looks unlikely unless EVH changes his mind about working with Wachs. Second choice would be Wachs with <insert names here>. Third is O&A.

I don't know what figures you're looking at, Wooder, but in the fall 2005 Arbitron, DAVE-FM's audience was 57.9% male/42.1% female.

Even if I concede those numbers to you it still doesn't matter. O&A are hardcore male. Just look at the stations they're on. Also, I disagree that DAVE isn't a good fit for Atlanta. DAVE, under the imaging and leadership of Michelle Engle wasn't a good fit for Atlanta. Dave needs to reimage and reposition themselves and the can do it without changing format. There is absolutely an audience for "Dave music" here, but Engle made it as unappealing and unlistenable as possible.

that's interesting, the last time i was in atlanta i had the opportunity to listen to acoustic sunrise for about an hour and a half as i was leaving town, and i think i counted 2 actual acoustic songs. decent idea, bad execution. typical.
