not to mention i'm sure a few markets opted not to air the game on the NBC stations that was meant to air it (it aired in split screen on KXAS in Dallas who focused on severe weather) as there was severe weather in parts of the US.

Sunday Night Football Ratings Record

It may have lost some viewers to Astros-White Sox during the rain delay and as the game went lopsided in the second half -- the baseball game was a three-run game until a late Chicago outburst -- but probably not many, due to the much greater interest (especially in the gambling aspect -- the over/under was still in play) in regular season NFL games for neutral fans than in postseason MLB games.
Most baseball fans tune out once their team is out of it. They need big market teams in the playoffs.
Seven of the 8 current teams are Top 20 markets. But two of them are Houston and Tampa Bay, which are mainly football markets. Neither the Astros nor the Rays have any national interest.
And the Giants and Dodgers, who do, are stuck playing each other in the first round.
Preliminary numbers for last night's Bills-Chiefs game are in.

Better than the Yankees/Red Sox, who played a one-and-done Wild Card game. I won't be shocked if the Wild Card games go to best of 3 next season.
I was hoping to get TV ratings for Sunday night's baseball playoffs, to contrast with Sunday Night Football. Unfortunately I don't see them online. However, here's a look at last week's cable TV ratings, and the four highest rated shows of the week are the MLB playoffs. No surprise that Game 1 between LA & SF was #1, with 4 million viewers:
