Sunday Night On WOGL

Did anyone catch Hy's last show? Seems to me that a guy who was leaving the airwaves after 48 years would have had a much bigger send-off!! I know he was leaving because of bad circumstances, but it sounded like "business as usual."

Does anyone remember when he signed off WIBG? "The old girl," is how he referred to the radio station...putting her to sleep with Bill Purcell's "Our Winter Love" in the background. That was brilliant.

Ok, the guy is much older now, understood. But someone should have helped him produce A BIG goodbye, filled with great calls, a few stories....perhaps a musical theme to the show. (I.E. A show FILLED with Hy's Philly Favorites perhaps.) Something that would have left us begging for more!

Certainly nothing against the man...he is a legend, but in my opinion it was a disappointing end to an era.

To each their own - Hyski did a ok send off about 10 minutes before 9 PM, and played many of his favorite songs. Maybe the few seconds of silence had meaning at the end of the last song before the ID.....

I didn't listen, but I guess under certain circumstances, there was no reason for a three ring circus. He's probably glad he's off the air, and out of the business that is obviously not the same world as when he entered in.
It's like any other business...they'll just downsize, cutback, and get ridddd of you.

Re: Sunday Night On WOGL: "To sum it up"

My dear fellow finger poppers. Let's once again, for those of you who are desperately unrealistic about the realitys of radio, examine the state of terrestrial broadcasting, once again. This is only for those who either are not paying attention or have a sever case of attention deficit disorder. Let's take it from the top, shall we? Now then, EVERYTHING is entirely pre-programmed, on "the radio", dictated in advance, from the corporate executives in the out of state programming department, with no creative input allowed, ascertained, or practically permitted on the local level, period. Especially from the hired help, Hy Lit included. There are rare talk radio show exceptions, only because of the nature of the vocal anatomy being connected to the brain. In today's monolithic Goliath conglomerate broadcasting environment, radio is implicitly structured UN-meaningful, watered down, impersonal, and designed with a forward motion to hype you out of existence? haven't you noticed, or are we too insecure to let go of our heterodyne sets?
Send all music credits for the final songs to the music director. And the sounds of silence at the end of the show was the board-op, making another error.

I airchecked him Sunday night from 7:20-9. Watch the aircheck board, I will probably be posting it when I have a chance this coming weekend.

Sam, maybe the sound of silence, even if it was a board error, was justice, because with Hy's last show, the Phila era of personality radio died. It was obvious he was constrained by corporate radio for a long time. The personality that he put in his shows at Wibbage etc, was watered down by today's twenty something programmers who haven't got a clue why Hy was the radio figure he became thru the years here. I've been listening to HyLit.com and enjoying the sound again and looking forward to Hy doing his thing for all of us to enjoy.

Yeesh...board op needs to be retrained.

Too bad XM or Sirius doesnt have studios in Philly (as far as I know). 60's on 6 or 50's 0n 5 would be a great fir for him. <P ID="signature">______________

DC isn't too far a commute but I don't think 60s or 50s have jocks on XM. I'm almost positive 70s doesnt although 80s and 90s do.

You're an idiot. Could it just so happen that I never caught a jock on 7 and dont listen to 5 and 6 that much? I spend most of my time on 140.

I'm laughing at you at you right now as I'm writing this. This is a riot. Go get a mocha at you nearest Starbuck's to calm your nerves. And where a preppy sweater, it's cold outside.
