Sunny 103.1 Myrtle Beach Mornings from 6-10

I stated in a previous topic on here that the music played on 103.1 during the John Boy and Billy Big Show from 6-10 in the morning was Oldies. I made a mistake, and I apologize for this. Some of the songs can be considered oldies, but the music is infact Classic Rock which is offered by the John Boy and Billy Big Show.

Sunny 103.1 is considered an Oldies station, and identifies as "The True Oldies Channel" even though they play a handful of classic rock songs during the JB&B show.

I found out this morning that it was infact Classic Rock being played, because after the John Boy and Billy show, from about 10 to 12:30 this afternoon, 103.1 was broadcasting 99.7 The Fox out of Charlotte which is a Classic Rock Station, and the flagship for John Boy and Billy I believe.

Again, sorry for the mistake, and hopefully Cumulus will get 103.1's programming set up right sometime in the future.

They will never get it right in Myrtle Beach with the "skeleton" crew they have :(....I should know, I am the morning DJ who's services were no longer needed at 6 successful years of beating JB & B in the Morning on K-Country 103 that was changed to the Wolf and now the Coyote. All the sales people are jumping ship due to new schedule to work, 7:30am until 6pm because they can't hit budget. You are never going to hit budget dealing your commercial avails out at $5.00 a pop!

Sunny 103.1 now back to calling itself the "True Oldies Channel" when for the past 3 years, we were told not to use the branding of "oldies" because it was negative! So we went to the "Super Hits" to the "Grand Strands Greatest Hits" and now back to the "True Oldies Channel".

They couldn't afford me in the morning, but pay JB & B twice my salary to have them on the air with "album rock" playing instead of oldies..... ??? ??? They completely changed Hot 100 into a "Rap and Hip Hop station" that will also fractionalize 98.5 KISS FM with competing 107.1. ESPN Radio, the TEAM has the "losers of the afternoon show call the locker room" that has 3 and 4 people working on it, and cannot even carry half of the mid-day numbers over to afternoon drive. But, the two hosts are the Market Managers pets, they get all kinds of promotions and giveaways, but cannot get any ratings.....If I were management and going to save costs, I would cut that show immediately. Why have three local yokals doing afternoon drive, national sports when you have the people at ESPN to do it?

Last but not least is the Wolf/Coyote debacle....they blew up a consistent Top 5 station in Sunny 106.5 that was number 3 in the market in adults in the last ratings to put this WOLF/Coyote on to go after Gator. First off, that continuous "howling" gets on my nerves!
Second, Joey D in the morning has no idea of what a morning show is and is getting his tail handed to him by Blue and Korby Ray on Gator. Our market is made up of mainly older retirees from up North....Myrtle Beach cannot support 2 powerhouse Country stations. They have other Country Format signals coming in from the South from Charleston, the West from Florence, Cumulus's own station and anothe from Wilmington.

Last but not least....SUNNY 106.5 was totally butchered going to 103.1! It was the consistent money maker on the beach and the most credible Cumulus station in the market. John Boy and Billy are out of place in the morning....there is no local feel to the show at all. Denny James in the Mid-day is an album rock music director who never did top40 radio and still doesn't know how to do it. The afternoon drive jock and PD Al Connors and I used to call him Denny "Lame"....

Speaking of "Lame"....there is "Lame Ryan" the Market Manager whose claim to fame in Myrtle Beach is........ :p NOTHING......Here's a guys that took a group of pretty successful radio stations, who's sales were in the black, and immediatley after his arrival started to "dismantle things" with all the sales reps going first....needless to say, they were all hired by the other radio groups in town..

So there is the story.....of Cumulus Myrtle Beach....My sources say that MM Lame Ryan will be history shortly.....
The stations in that building are all set up for "failure" now

This is exactly why I have gone over to Satellite Radio. The only FM station on the Strand which I listen to is WRNN 99.5. I'm a big sports radio fan, but those morons that do the afternoon show are just plain bad. Mad Max was ok as a rock DJ, but he shouldn't be doing sports and Matt Muntz(sp.) belongs on the trash heap! cumulus, along with the other companies have effectively dismantled MB radio when it was fine to begin with.

As for you lou, I hope you find a gig soon. Good Luck!

Yes, that show on 93.9 stinks during afternoon drive. They could run any number of different shows instead, like Primetime with the Packman (which has no affiliate in the Grand Strand), SportsNation, or even Bobby Hartin's show from Charleston.

They could run it in the morning, but they can't because to be labeled ESPN Radio, they have to run Mike & Mike in the Morning, or some other station in the Grand Strand could swipe ESPN away from them.

I believe when they moved Sunny from 106.5 to 103.1 that they should of left Lou in the Morning and dumped John Boy and Billy or just moved John Boy and Billy to Coyote 106.5. As for Coyote I listen to them when theirs just a commerical or Nascar is on Gator their ok. But their are some other country stations to listen to also. Such as Eagle 92.9 and 96.9 The Wolf.

As for Hot going Power they still compete with Mix somewhat but not as much now so that was a good move to flip to Hip Hop. And Kiss 98.5 went R&B to compete with Q 107.1. How is Q 107.1 doing as their right in between the two country stations.

John Boy and Billy did once offer oldies. Why I don't know.

I like the JB&B show. Although I think some of the material (robert D rayford) might not fly so well in cities like NY or LA.

Wow another disgruntled employee. I like ESPN in Myrtle Beach. Its way better than other cities I've been and I've heard the show in Charleston...its no better.... please. As far as the other stations you know corporate goofs make the decisions and the local directors carry them out. Good or bad. So whine to them.

Did you ever wonder why there are so many disgruntled former Cumulus employees? I don't. I KNOW why there are so many and I am happy to say I've left my Cumulus "disgruntlement" in Myrtle Beach. I just feel bad for those that are still SO upset about it. I know it was a huge part of your lives, but let it go. There is nothing you can do. Find something else to love... you'll feel much better! I promise!

Another disgruntled employee is right. You join an industry website and that is your very first entry? Sounds to me like Louk1065 is ready for NYC, not MYB.

Whether it's MYB or NYC, radio is a business. Format flips, programming changes, personnel changes are in many cases being driven by the economy. For the next year, the radio biz is really gonna suffer. Advertisers are pulling back and it all rolls down hill. I paid more for an oil change the other day. Sure, it's the cost of oil, but it's also the company wanting to keep the profit margin stable with the rising cost of everything else. Radio is no different. There are going to be cuts.

With Louk1065's knowledge of MYB radio, maybe he/she can prove skills in a bigger market like Padukah?
