Sunny 104.5

Can anyone please state the format that was on the former Sunny 104.5? Also, can you please name a song or two that they played? Thank you very kindly.

Gold Based AC/Oldies. Not sure what to exactly call it.

Typical artists include The Temptations, Beatles, Diana Ross, Elton John, and in it's later days, a lot of disco.

Actually it was an Iraqi top 40 channel, correctly called Sunni 104.5.

actually Kevin you were right that was the format Gold AC/Oldies. Now 106.1 has basically become a supersized SUNNY.

I miss the old 104.5 and am not impressed with 106.1. I went away on vacation and came home and both 104.5 and 106.1 were flipped. Where did my smooth jazz make out music go?

Thanks for the info guys. 3 more questions please...
1--I know this station was voice tracked. Was the entire lineup voicetracked, or just some shifts?
2--Did this station sound lilke the old Jammin Oldies format?
3--Anybody know where I can see the Sunny logo?

Thanks for the information everybody!

WJZZ has resurfaced on 97.5, which Greater Media purchased from Nassau. I believe the WJZZ call was purchased from Clear Channel.

smooth jazz is @ 97.5 now

Sunny during the mid 1980's were great. They were WSNI 104.5 (they always said "point"). After WFIL went Country, most of the crew went to Sunny.

Mornings were great with Don Cannon, Dennis Malloy, and Tony Bruno. Dennis's impersonations of "Bad Wilson" and "The Green Gross-out" were great!!.
Then there were Joe Simone, Barbara Somers, Chris Gwetta, Valerie Knight, Hi Lit, and Bob Charger.

One of Philadelphia's best stations!!!!

Stuart : :)

Bad Wilson kicked tail--the Cannon & Company show was awesome all around.

Notice the theme with this thread and the one about WIP....all local broadcasts and local talent.

Interesting concept..............

The mid 80's version of Sunny was a favorite of mine. And I always enjoyed Don Cannon in the morning, be it on Wibbage, Sunny or WOGL. Radio, regrettably, has no room for personality anymore. The deal is to make it sound like an iPod to attract the kiddie bucks. What the morons who program radio don't understand is that KIDS DON'T LISTEN TO THE RADIO MUCH ANYMORE...ADULTS DO. Alas, we're too 'old' to be useless or to consume anything. Ha! Tell that to my mortgage company!

Don,
I agree with you 100%, I think radio to a large degree is about the personalities. I now live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, but grew up in Northeast Phila. I love to read some of the comments on this board. The names and the shows bring back GREAT memories. Even when I read my home board (Raleigh/Greensboro NC), people talk about the old radio folks and shows. Radio used to be fun to listen to! (sometimes it still is).
I was reading where Pierre Robert celebrated his 25th anniversary on WMMR. I know there are exceptions, but most personalities are not at a station that long. (Congrads Pierre!!!).
There used to be contests, fun jingles, fun air checks. Lots and lots of appearances by the personalities. When I was in Elementary School, we took a trip to Channel 6 (WFIL than). We were able to meet everyone at the TV Station, also the "Famous '56 Boss Jocks." I do not think this happens now.

If only we could turn back time....

Stuart :'(

Was Sunny always on the 104.5 frequency? Also, can somebody elaborate just a little on the Gold AC format? What kind of music is played? Thanks everybody. I actually liked Sunny during its last few months. I dont' think I heard an overnight dj, and not sure how much voicetracking was used, but musically, it was great.

Gold AC is largely " Pop" hits from the 60s and 70s, sometimes into the 80s, depending on the station. Top 40 type songs, what some would call " oldies" . Usually presented in a more background format, less personality than an oldies or upbeat classic hits station would be perceived. Usually no currents, which are a component of Mainstream AC.
