Sunny 105.9 Is Here! "Orlando's Greatest Hits"!

Did I understand this wrong? O-Rock is coming to an HD2 channel? ???

I'm in my 20's and well rounded with my music listening but I love Alternative, I will really miss O-rock. I don't hear much greenday, offspring, sublime..etc on JRR. I already give 98.9 WMMO a good listen during a typical day (they have the best processing in the Orlando market, IMHO).

A note on the audio processing (as far as analog goes). I think Sunny's processing is a little too aggressive for the format, especially with a 100K watt stick.

WJRR has some funky distorted processing (heavy clipping?) with a 60Hz ground loop. How annoying.

Anyway, I think I need to go get satellite radio....right....about....now.
 
I finally heard the version of Funky Cold Medina that Sunny is playing and it's some dance remix that I've never heard before. I agree that version doesn't fit the format, but I think the original single with the prominent Honky Tonk Woman sample would work. Now -- what's the Mellencamp song with the rap break?

Remixes of old songs? That's something I'd normally hear on a station like Charlie-FM in Greenville, SC, but not a station with the blueprint of CBS-FM.
 
There's another weird remix I heard this morning of 867-5309 Jenny. Like some sort of unplugged performance except there was no audience. It reminded me of when I downloaded Badfinger songs from I-tunes and could only get some rerecorded versions which were not as peppy as the original. I wonder if they're using some music source where certain originals are not available?

No their doing it on purpose.The Hit Versions are easily available to radio from several sources.

Sunny is using some cuts off of JAM Creative Production's POSITRON jingle package, which was originally made for WABC-AM/NYC in the late 70s, btw....

IIRC Power 105.9 also used classic jingles in its' time.

Here in Minneapolis, "Love 105" debuted last spring. Basically a lighter version of Oldies/Classic Hits.

There were several strange alternative versions that I had never heard before. I remember hearing a mix of Starbuck's "Moonlight Feels Right" where the rhythym track was turned up. It sounded as if there was a constant chorus of crickets all throughout the song.

Not sure where these came from or why they used them. But within a few weeks, they all disappeared and the "real" versions were being played instead.

I'm guessing the same thing will happen at Sunny. It's some sort of "trial balloon" that ain't gonna fly.

I would guess that that is the case as well. When CBS-FM first came back, I remember hearing a live or acoustic version of John Cougar's "Small Town." Next time I heard the song, it was the "real" version of the song. Give Sunny some time. It has potential, and things like this will probably start to get worked out over time.

I thought something sounded "off" about Sunny's jingles - just couldn't put my finger on it. I'm guessing it must have been one or both of the two scenarios you brought up. Although the odd thing is that WODS (Oldies 103.3) in Boston started using the same batch of jingles a month ago and they have the full vocal sound.

But hey, the thinner vocal sound kinda goes along with the sound of the station as a whole so far - like a watered-down version of CBS-FM.
 
After listening to Sunny for about two weeks now, I can say I prefer WCBS-FM. I think CBS-FM it is more balanced and they play a lot more 60's hits (and even some 50's hits). Sunny is too top heavy with the 80's, which really doesn't blend well with the 60's and 70's music.

i happen to think the 80's songs are blending in fine with the 60's and 70's titles...Sunny sounds great!
 
Over the course of the last couple of weeks, Sunny has fine tuned the music, and its flowing better. But I still find myself listening more to the Big 810.

Sunny's montage had vignettes for individual years from the late 60's into the 80's, year by year, up until 1989. CBS-FM's montage had a vignette for each year from 1964 to 1979, then just did one montage to cover the entire 80's decade. Being the "child of the 80's" that I am, I'm enjoying this launch slightly better, even though 'CBS is in my own backyard...

And the station apparently has the same imaging guy and package that CBS-FM has.

Great Station,I joined their listener's club. Sunny 105.9 is better than any of the Classic stations in Atlanta,Chattanooga or Knoxville!
 
I like it in small amount..I would not be able to listen to it for a whole day.. I don't know i like the music but..Yea..
 
OK. I have to be honest. I think WEUS has a chance here. Simply becuase they play the real oldies oldies fans love. As for the signal. it's not too bad. you can hear them in all of central florida pretty well. Brevard has basically the same thing on 1560 so that works in palm bay and areas like that. As for sunny it is still good even a month and a half after the flip. I think sunny has it figured out. I'm really liking how they are turning out. and did you notice that sunny has 70s saturday night? that also helps as well because mix is the party station for saturday night. So sunny is still going pretty strong here as well. now when i was down in palm bay i noticed suny coming in stronger than normal. that's another thing they have going for them. that 105.9 is a powerhouse of a signal. considering i have heard it from palm bay to damn near georgia. ok, i'm done here.
 
Sorry, the crippled O-Rock stream is better than this tired stuff.

I haven't heard it yet, but could it be a processor issue? I was told by an engineer that it could have a....bad element? I know that one of the stations I work for in Tampa had a few problems and it amounted to the processing needing to be tweaked. I’m probably way off.
 
Does anyone else have a minor problem with reception of 105.9? The signal is powerful, but there seems to be a little bit of interference as my car moves. Sounds fine stationary & in the house.
 
True, but Magic, MMO and HTQ all took a slight hit in this same period, which are the three I would expect to see affected by Sunny the most. Seems to me like this is the first time WOCL's seen higher than a 1.x share in quite sometime. :)
