Sunny 98.1 upgrades

A mere 10 days after being granted their signal upgrade, Sunny 98.1 completes it. License to cover was filed on the 14th and the signal is significantly better in the north and east areas of the county. It should also be noted that the rhythmic/urban oldies format has been tweaked recently. The station is still mostly "old school" but has been mixing in a couple of current songs each hour as well.

Interestingly, they actually dropped power from 250 to 180 watts, but losing the directional antenna seems to have made all the difference.

I'm curious what the long term plans are for this translator; a move-in from Jackson, TN has been filed for 107.5 MHz listing WLOR as the parent. It's also 250 watts but will require a directional antenna which will once again hurt reception to the northern part of the county. Since the move-in will be tied to the parent for a year or two, I can't see them sticking with both 98.1 AND 107.5. As far as I know, sister stations 99.1 and 95.1 don't broadcast HD, and Rock City Radio owns no other AM stations… so I cannot speculate on what their plans are.
