"Sunny 99.1" coming May 7th

Please be oldies... I'm tired of WTRY being the only FM oldies station here... I could also settle for a nice Soft AC, similar to WDUV or WFEZ in Florida :)

Yes, please be oldies, but an oldies station with real variety(50's thru 70's). Our Clear Channel local oldies clone is so redundant with their playlist.

There's an excellent 50's oldies streamer online named "Smile" radio. "Sunny" could be a name for the format.

If other markets are any indication...............

"SUNNY" doesn't usually constitute oldies 8)

The "Sunny 99.1" Facebook page has been deleted. If they wanted it to be such a secret, why would they start a page to begin with. I only found the page because of the townsquare employees "liked" it and it showed up in my ticker.

Where it's always Sunny in the 80's Or at the TV series says Where it's alwasy Sunny in Philidelphia

Please.....let the new station be jazz, no more oldies, no more soft AC. Please, someone bring some life to this dull and boring radio area.

Jazz? I will bet no...Let's be realistic, what format is needed? We have several rock stations, 2 Top 40 (Fly and Kiss) B95 and the River with the relatively same format. 2 country stations. What's next? All Jazz? Noooo....

According to their Facebook page,

"We go on-the-air on March 9th at midnight. Wake up Friday to the sounds of The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers, Barbra Streisand, Anne Murray and Barry Manilow, Take That, Bon Jovi, Chicago, Olivia Newton-John, Elton John, Smokey Robinson, Bobby Darin, Christopher Cross, Vanessa L. Williams, Simon & Garfunkel, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, Mariah Carey, Michael Bolton, The Supremes, The Four Seasons, Elvis Presley, Three Dog Night, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, The Temptations, The Monkees, Stevie Wonder, The Righteous Brothers, Buddy Holly, The Beach Boys."

This is too good to be true. This station already has WTRY beat by including artists from the 50's. If the mix is right with a deep playlist this could be fun. It could force Magic to go FM too. Unless you're listening to a small table radio AM just doesn't cut it for music.
Oldies and Standards fans, rejoice!!

For those who live in Albany and immediate surrounding towns, this might make sense. Unfortunately, That signal doesn't seem to get that far out. How much of an impact will this really have?

Sunny 99.1 has started "stunting" with a loop of various construction sounds interrupted every five minutes with workers talking about building the station. The signal is only 250 watts non directional but supposedly covers Troy and to an lesser extent Albany with a primary signal. It's outer signal perimeter includes Saratoga Springs and Amsterdam. It should have a stronger signal in Albany and Troy than Rotterdam based TRY.
As far as the music, Buddy Holly to Bon Jovi is quite a range. Will Sunny find enough audience?

I will hopefully be able to drive around tomorrow and scope the signal. (It booms in for me at home, but I'm just over a mile north of the transmitter, which appears to be on Bald Mountain, same location as WNYT TV's old analog antenna.) I suspect this signal will be superior to WTRY's in at least some areas, though hard to say how large those areas might be.
