Sunny and B101 to Return to Normal Tomorrow

When I was in Philadelphia in November, both B101 and Sunny were playing continuous holiday music. Looks like regular programming will resume tomorrow. One good thing of non stop Christmas music is that the music heard yearly sounds fresh for a short time. I'm looking forward to Sunny's return. Do they stream? I won't be in Philly for a while.

Sunny does stream.

I heard a promo at about 9:30 pm Sunday night saying Sunny would return to its regular music format in 2 days. Does that mean Monday will still be Christmas music, or was that a mistake? We'll know by Monday morning if you're reading this then. The website still says holiday music "through Christmas day".

Tuesday

Sunny has been promoting all last week that they will play Christmas music until Tuesday, they will be Christmas on Monday....that is what the liners claimed, because of the popularity of the music.

Re: Tuesday

I love Sunny 104.5! Ha ha. I'm not even kidding. They always help me look a bit more legitimate when I want to start celebrating Christmas as soon as Halloween is over! I will be devastated when their "time" comes.

Christmas Future. The One I Fear The Most.

With more and more fragmenting in radio formats (both the Earth-bound and that other kind), maybe the "Christmas Miracle" this year is 104.5 will unveil their
new format on Tuesday morning with the Tesher...presenting "NICK 104.5 Your
Santa Station in Philly"....wouldn't that be wonderful, Clarence?

Re: Christmas Future. The One I Fear The Most.

I don't think it will go that far, but I could see Sunny do a "Christmas In July" weekend next Summer and go all-Christmas next year a few days earlier than they did this year....say November 1st.

If Sunny gets a huge boost in the Fall books, expect B to also start the Yule tunes earlier next year. In fact, both may start on November 1st.

WSNI was one of two CC-owned AC stations (the other being WNIC Detroit) that went all-Christmas quite early this year (Sunny on November 4th, WNIC on November 1st). I think they were flipped that early as a test to see if they would get a huge boost from the all-Christmas format as soon as early November.

If they do, you may see a lot of CC (and other) stations that go all-Christmas each year taking the plunge on Novemebr 1st in 2006 and beyond.

This year, we began to see a trend towards earlier flips to all-Christmas formats. Next year, the trend may accelerate to the point of seeing over a hundred flips on the very first day of November.

Possibly.

Sunny, possibly, B101, don't get your hopes up. Look at what happend this year. B101 flipped two weeks after Sunny.

Possibly. Thats if it was successful, which it probably was.

You predicted the same thing this year. There weren't as many as you thought there would be. Just look at what happend this year. There has to be a limit. Not every station will flip the first week of November.

Is November 1 your birthday or something?

Wait and see (hopefully a LONG wait)

And if Sunny gets very little to no boost from the way to early flip, they may not flip at all next year. B would then be able to wait until Thanksgiving, a more sensible time for Christmas music. We have 10+ months to wait and see, so lets just wait until then, and see!!!!

And if you look at the second month trends...WNIC in Detroit got about two weeks with Christmas in the second phase..Sunny a little less than that. Neither station saw any increase..in fact the competitors,,WMGC in Detroit and B 101 both picked up share during this time. Atlantic City is going to be where a story will be written..the station that flipped on October 17th vs the market leading A/C..WFPG..which never flipped to all Christmas til very close to the holiday.
