Sunny is safe, now about the Q and JJZ??

Was speaking to an ad account executive today for the CC Philly cluster. From what I gathered, WSNI is safe and will not flip, they are happy with Sunny, easy to sell and advertiser/consumer friendly, from what I was told. Tesh is going to build the morning audiance, they will use the term, "family friendly", and tweak the format somewhat. It seems JT is the one who is gone, "for now", Cook is still in the building, come January we will see. The Q and JJZ are another story, the powers to be are looking into these stations from all angles and making possibile assumptions for different formats. This is not gospel but its from a good source, will it fly, only time will tell.

Hmmm, I say its time to start rumors of an Eagle 106 resurrection :D

I think oldies 106 would be great for the station 50's and 60's now that would be a # 1 station

Just like the rest of the #1 Oldies Stations across the country...

I do not think any of those stations should change. The Philly CC cluster (and Allentown/Reading/Lancaster/Harrisburg) are the only stations which are constant, 10 + years now, with no Major Format flips or Station Name Changes. (They even brougt back the familar Sunny 104.5 WSNI, Star & Alice?? who were they? but people remember Sunny)

The CC stations are always on top in the ratings, yes they take a hit from time to time when another new station comes on, but they bounce back after the novelty of the new station wears off.

Everyone in Philly knows Power 99, Q102, Sunny, WDAS-FM, & WJJZ, and what they will hear when they tune into one of those stations. You all know how Philly hates Changes....why do you think new stations and ones constantly flipping formats are at the bottom of the ratings??

Do you think the Chill format could work on 106.1? As Smooth Jazz, 106.1 was supposed to skew towards black adults, wasn't it? I don't really think it does that anymore and wouldn't it be a better idea for CC to go after a different audience since they have WDAS-FM anyway?

As for Q102... Well, I think the possibilities are endless. Clear Channel could certainly enter the FM Talk fray and Free-FM would probably die a quick death. We don't need Q102 anyway because if they went away, Wired 96.5 would simply mainstream (and could replace their shitjocks with some of the better ones from Q102) and we'd still have a CHR in town.

E. Gill, again you attack Q102 and don't justify it. You could easily argue that we don't need WIRED because they have shitjocks, and sound terrible. Did you get fired from the promotions team or something?

You ALWAYS have something bad to say about Q102, and are always protecting WIRED...how long have you been working for Beasley? Q102 isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Your name is very appropriate. Are you nuts or something? LOL.

Who is attacking Q102? My post is about WJJZ and touches on Q102 in passing, with the mention that Philly radio could withstand the demise of Q102. "Protecting Wired"? What the hell are you smoking? Do you even read my posts? You're just making stuff up now!

Why am I responding to this? You are the one with an apparent agenda; I'm just discussing radio. Go away.

It's simple.....Q doesn't play enough dance, therefore, it sucks. That's according to him, anyway.

FOX News Alert: YOU SUCK!!! Ya like apples?</P>

Nice...finally some activity on this board. I just wonder why you think Q102 would flip to talk?

Yes, Philly radio could withstand it...but they could also live without Wired, they could live without The Beat and/or Power, too.

Q102 bills well, and the ratings are solid. They aren't going anywhere.

Wired's billing...that's a different story all together.

I have never said that in my life, I don't believe that to be true, and you are an argumentative pain in the ass. I can't remember the last time you directed a comment at me that wasn't based on pure fantasy. I still can't believe that you waste so much time pushing your stupid agenda on a dumb radio message board! You really need to get a life. That is according to me.

Clear Channel is reportedly interested in launching an FM Talk network in some major markets so I'm just basing this on which stations they'd be likely to do away with. The format could work on other stations too but I'm just thinking about stations owned by Clear Channel since they're the ones allegedly launching the network.

It all comes down to revenue really. Of course, that means current revenue and projected revenue so it's always a crapshoot. I'm thinking: "Which CC stations are left with the least money in the coffers after paying the bills (including salaries)?" Billing high is great but the cost of operating the station is immediately sucked out of that.

So which CC stations have the lowest revenue at the end of the day? WJJZ? No way! Not with such tiny overhead costs. And that's the same reason Sunny wouldn't be on the shortlist either. WDAS-FM, from what I understand, bills ridiculously high and it's not nearly as costly to operate as Q102 (which I hear bills okay) and Power 99 (whose billing I have heard nothing about but I imagine it's pretty great).

I could be nuts but it just seems like Clear Channel, when faced with cutting the fat, would look at Q102 first. And it's nothing new. Throughout history, radio companies always seem to kill CHR's at the drop of a hat. And for good reason: They're expensive as hell!

Don't forget: cheapo talent and programmer = high profit from low ratings

Actually, 60's and 70's oldies stations do well in a lot of towns. WOGL is always toward the top and WMJI in Cleveland is even #1 at times. OK, CBS-FM is gone, but New York is a different kind of market...It's the "Real Oldies" stations that flop.

Would be interesting to know if "Real Oldies" actually works on FM. But I'm not even gonna go there...I know, I know...sponsors!!

Hey you won't get that argument from me. I think Oldies are grossly underutilized but I don't think they'll be a number one format typea thing any time soon.

If Clear Channel does start a FM Talk Network, maybe they just wouldn't do it in Philly! Are any of their stations in major trouble? From what I've heard, they all BILL well. Its all about the money!

I think I heard something like they're looking at 6 of the top 10 markets. So you're right: Philly might not even be in the mix. I guess it depends on whether they think Philly is an important enough market for launching the alleged network. If Philly is in that mix though, CC would have to weigh the pros of launching the network here vs. the cons of getting rid of whatever station they choose to kill off.
