Sunny seeks to pump up signal

In what I assume is the desire to keep full class C station, Clear Channel is seeking to change WRSN's facilities. With the change they will put Fayetteville in the 60 dbu signal range. They will move to just south of Cary (also a new city of license of Cary)which will bring the signal east causing less problems to 94.1 in the triad. They will stay directional but want to boost their HAAT to 448 meters keeping 100kw, 450meters is the minimum to keep class C status but they may be close enough.

This will be the same tower G 105 will use for their signal change that will also improve Raleigh/Durham coverage.

With Sunny's numbers it seems they need a new format!
______________

Woody makes sense. It's always amusing when stations with mediocre ratings try to boost signal coverage so that even more population can hear their boring programming. Maybe this will tie in with Sunny's forthcoming announcement that they will soon be Christmas Music year round. Don't laugh. Nothing else they do including a very high paid morning show seems to work.

Sunny is like Ali's "rope a dope"...dope radio. Kinda fits. Sunny is on the ropes 6 months out of the year, then come mid-Nov here comes the Xmas Kiss. It gives a kick for 3rd phase of Fall and the effect is good thru 1st phase of Winter. Numbers rise...then fall by Spring. They fall even further in Summer. Trend it out, you'll see. Yes, Sunny's 35-44's are strong. But not as strong when Bob Bronson programmed the station. In fact, Sunny's numbers haven't approached Bronson's. Sunny did dip with Bob, but only when CC (Marc Chase) took over and started screwing with what he had been doing. CC is the reason Edwards left as well.

I had read a while back that CC was wanting to move 93.9 eastward... I didn't know that G105 was going to be a part of that too. Wonder how soon this will happen.

Any engineering experts have an idea or make a projection on how much more eastward this might make the signal for both stations? I'm wondering how much coverage G105 is going to be able to get out in that direction with 105.1 in Havelock (WKOO? or whatever it is now) down the road.

I'm still trying to figure out where.. G105 doesn't even put an audible signal in here to Greenville...
______________

*BUMP*
Anyone else heard anything about the plans on moving 93.9 to the WLFL(TV 22) site? If they do move that will leave a vacant 1,000 foot tower out near Chapel Hill. (Backup use perhaps?)
I remember reading somewhere that WDCG's plans to move (to the same tower as 93.9 will share with WLFL) have been cut, because the FCC won't allow it. (Which is fine by me. I enjoy hearing the station up my way without any problem.)

Anyone?

WDCG (G105) has a construction permit for the WLFL site. The antenna will be a bit higher than (1,054 ft AAT versus 1,041 at the Terrel's Mountain site) but they will cut power from 100 kW to 78 kW and downgrade from a class C0 to a C1. (They went from a class C to a class C1 in 2004 for a first-adjacent Roanoke area station (WZBL) to upgrade. A former plan to move to the WLFL site was rejected.

If (or when) the two CC stations at Terrel's Mountain head for the WLFL tower, that will leave two vacant sticks out there, since WRSN and WDCG are on separate towers (they've been out there long before they became co-owned in 1993). WLFL-TV's digital facilities are on the WRAL Digital Tower in Auburn, so I wonder if they'll permenantly vacate their analog site in 2009.

Proposed coverage of WDCG:

well then. i reckon it's still a 50/50 eh? oh, and boy would it be sweet if they could go farther up the tower, say. closer to the 1,500ft mark? ;D
thanks for the info :)

I can't help but question the future move of WDCG. When looking at G105’s current verses future coverage areas, I see them currently with a city grade signal over 3 cities of 200,000 people or more each at the moment. If they move to the Cary site, they may increase their signal over the eastern part of the Triangle metro, but don't know why they would care too as they loose eastern Guilford Country and Greensboro. They are currently in a fast growing dual metro area with strong signals in both locations and full coverage into the Triangle’s eastern metro. I just don't see the reasoning for moving and downgrading their coverage area to a worse location for them. For 93.9 however, it makes perfect sense to move east with the short spacing issues from the Triad. Can anyone explain the reason G105 would move and not really gain much in the Triangle… plus loosing the 3rd largest city in NC?

I remember hearing some talk a few years ago about the 93.9 signal, after their flip to Soft AC, having lots of trouble penetrating the listen-at-work audience in Raleigh's many glass, steel and concrete office buildings that competitor WRAL-FM's signal wasn't experiencing. Apparently, this wasn't a problem in Durham, since that end of the Triangle is closer to the Terrell's Mountain antenna farm. With G-105 at the same location, they may have been facing similar difficulties.

I know for a fact that G105 streams online now :)
not sure about Sunny, but I figure they are doing the same now.

All four CC Raleigh stations (Sunny, The River, G105, and 106.1 RDU) now stream online. Sunny started streaming first, then the others followed suit more recently.
