Sunny

This is amazing. It was raining. In fact, as the rain started, the station I was listening to was playing Rupert Holmes' "Escape" (not as part of the format, but in a commercial). One line is "gettin' caught in the rain".

A few minutes later, I was able to pick up the translator airing an HD-3 50s-60s oldies station. As that station started playing "Sunny" by Bobby Hebb, the sun came out and the rain stopped.

When I was kid, it was raining and when we were halfway to the beach, we went through a tunnel, in a mountain and when we were through the mountain, it was no longer raining, the sun came out and the rain didn't return! In the same vein, I once had an amazing adventure driving in San Francisco, that was preceded by "Driving in San Francisco" by Bill Cosby on KSFO!

I still have the LP by Bill Cosby that has "Driving in San Francisco". A very funny bit.

In case you were wondering, here's the story: In the late 70s, I was in San Francisco with a friend. We checked into a motel and I went down the street to get a hamburger. When I left, I turned the wrong direction out of the parking lot and ended up on the main part of Lombard Street. I tried to turn around. There were no left turns and every time I made a right turn, the only way back on to Lombard was to make another right turn. I tried every right turn off of Lombard, all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge, with the same result each time! I had two choices, either go over the Golden Gate Bridge or escape to Golden Gate Park. I chose the latter, which put me on a road that went up and over and I ended up miles away, not knowing the area! I looked everywhere for a service station and there were none. I finally ended up at the beach. At this point, I found the local inset of a state map and managed to make my way back that way. I think this was about two hours later. The hamburgers were cold.

I think you beat Cosby's story although I'm sure it was not funny to you.

Thank you. In retrospect, I should have gone over the Golden Gate Bridge and taken the first exit into Marin County or even Santa Rosa, which would still have been better than what I did! Of course, I probably wouldn't remember the story so clearly 44 years later.
