Sunny's New Jingles

It is very sad that they are still going downhill! They just don't understand how to run a radio station. WSNY used to be a popular radio station that you would hear everywhere you went. Now other stations have taken over the listeners. Get a CLUE as to what really sounds good.

No doubt. It's become somewhat of a second-rate station. Time to bring Bob Nunnally and John Simons back (let alone do something with their pathetic morning show). It seems like they have revamped their music a bit but the presentation is worse than ever. Not a very good move for their new PD, imo.

After reading the above posts I was curious. Just checked the latest numbers and it appears that WSNY is still the #1 AC in the market. Not sure what they mean when saying the station is "second rate" and a "has been". Looks very healthy to me.
Could they be disgruntled former employees? Just curious about the off base opinions? ???

Sunny is just fine...it will get its footing again and remain the cash-cow of cowtown, OH for years too come. They sell a non-controversial, feel good, background station.

Do any of you recall the mid and late 80's when NCI and LVQ were duking it out...yeah, LVQ...I know 92X was around but they were hardly a true competitor for anything more than 3rd-5th in the market. All that said, the morning show on both stations was KILLER CONNECTED to the city and seemed to drive topics of conversation around town...well, here we are several years later and NCI has gone up and down a bit...LVQ has wained a bit because of market shifts and more competition and the same thing is happening with WSNY, now. It will adjust and be a top 5 station in the market like it always has been.

Haven't heard it but I hope they are not using those dreaded Jones TM jingles. I personally do not like their AC packages and their vocals are irritating. If they use those jingles, I'll be very disappointed. I am never a fan of their adult contemporary packages. I also hope they are not using new jingles similiar to the TM vocals too. It doesn't belong to an AC station like Sunny and should not been on the air in any way because the music is changing. I am against those "Dallas" sound on such stations.

If you know what is the new package and which company is it from, I again hope it is not from the company that produces irritating jingles with irritating, ear-shattering vocals.

I usually just read the boards and have never posted before. I finally have to give my opinion. No, I don't think they are disgruntled former employees but disgruntled former listeners! The station has gone downhill terribly. I quit listening after the lady DJ got fired that I thought had the best personality and radio voice. I saw the ratings in the cols dispatch and they aren't even close to being in the top anymore.

But remember, please...

The "numbers" you read in the paper are most often the 12 plus total audience number. That number means absolutely nothing to an advertiser. No ad buys are based upon 12 plus numbers. What matters is the "in demo" number, which I'm fairly certain shows Sunny at or very near top 5 status in the market. And, if you're the top A/C station, you should do fine. That's what gets you the ad buys.

Certainly, the station is way off from it's peak. But, it is still ranked high enough and can do well enough in the demos. Remember...there's been tremendous market fragmentation in Columbus in the last 15 years (thank you, CC for all the new stations you "moved in" proving to the FCC that Columbus, with 35 or so signals reaching it was actually "under radioed".) That fragmentation means no station can really expect to achieve the shares it once did. Which is how the game is played today...

There's no doubt that Sunny will do well in the numbers (and financially) but I would love to see them return to their glory days and steadily within the top three. I believe they could do it if they simply try and mirror their hayday. Go back to the way they used to sound. After reading your responses, it's easy to come to two conclusions: Sunny can make money but they've hurt themselves (simply by sound and presentation) and do not have nearly the same stature in the city. It has little to do with the music, although their 'tweeks' seem weak to me. All I'm saying is why and how, as one poster said, irritate me. They used to have killer jingles. I have no clue who poduced the new ones but they should hire some new singers. They are horrid and as I mentioned before, worse than the former.

As far as their jocks are concerned, I agree that Sandy Bennet was truly an excellent jock (the new girl sounds fine though). She was precise and articulate which is perfect for music-intensive radio. I liked her a lot on the air.

Getting to my point. Sunny used to sound awesome. Like they owned the city. This is no longer true and unfortunate. They will subcome to the competition if they don't bring localism and pure likeablity into the market. QFM makes me feel 'at-home'. Comfortable. Sunny's mornings without Stacy have become less irritating but still lacks professionalism, togetherness and is simply... sloppy. Their bits are lame. I've heard better in small markets. Dino seems to be a great guy but is not a good lead or orator. They need the sound of power and comfort. Sean is Ok but seems restricted, uncomfortable and bored. She'll never be the same without a good lead but she's a start for the station. I hate to say it but they should dump Dino and get a local, very professionally sounding talent.

I'm not sure who is fully responsible (and I don't think it was Chuck Knight's fault). Let's not forget that they have two other struggling stations. Jason, one of which at one time was yours, I believe. Star was something. Especially near the end. Look what's happened. They're over (and I'm hearing a lot of 80's on The Brew). You did well. Too bad Saga's blowing it. As far as JZA is concerned, well Jazz is Jazz.

Ultimately... I want the old Sunny back!!!

Hands down the best AC package in the world is

REELWORLD - WJXA

Give it a listen

Couldn't Sunny PLEASE return the jingles and get Fresh 102.7's MUSIC instead? If not, they should at least get the SNOREWORLD jingle package that is appropriate to complement their music. They seem even softer since Christmas music ended, if that's possible. Of course, this should present an opportunity for 93.3 to take a Brighter stance (again, like Fresh 102.7), but WLZT seems determined to hold onto the title of most indefensible waste of a big signal imaginable.
