Last summer Sunrise Broadcasting acquired W247AW on 97.3 in Poughkeepsie to relay 103.1 WJGK Newburg. They took it silent and were granted a construction permit to increase power from 10 to 250 watts. Radio Insight reports they are now on the air, and for some reason getting their signal for WJGK from 98.9 WGNY-HD3. I wonder what Sunrise gains by splitting the class A signal of WGNY-FM 3 ways. More to my point however, I gave 97.3 a listen today. I hope that they are just in the early stages of testing at the new power level, with some glitches to work out. Right now, they are doing little more than interfering with 97.3 WZAD 'The Wolf' even just across the Hudson River from the Highland tower farm the signal is weak, no better than the main station. A few miles down Route 9 WZAD clashes with W247AW and by the Poughkeepsie Galleria completely overrides them. The same is true on Poughkeepsie's east side. While 97.3 Poughkeepsie never had a great signal, even for a low power translator, right now it is pointless being on the air
