Sunrise Broadcasting gets CP for 1200 AM in Poughkeeposie

According to Scott Fybush Northeast Radio Watch, the FCC has finally approved Sunrise Broadcasting’s Construction Permit for new AM radio station on the 1200 frequency they have long sought to use, now to serve Poughkeepsie. They now need a site and permission for a 5 tower array along Route 9W in Highland. If it gets built, the new 1200 would run 4700 watts day, 1000 watts night, with most of its power getting directed northeast towards Poughkeepsie .My question is, with most local AM stations not even showing up in the ratings, WKIP with a 2.6 is the best, and WBNR the only other local station showing up(They both play standards with no FM competition); why would anybody even bother to put a new AM station on the air here? Their own WGNY AM, which back when they wanted to locate the station in Kingston, was to be simulcast on the new station, doesn’t even show up in the Newburg ratings. With the noted exceptions most Mid Hudson AM stations are only keeping the transmitter warm, very few people even notice.

Properly executed oldies station would be successful, IMHO---I'm talking a wide variety of oldies from the mid fifties on up to the mid 70's, and not just the top 10 stuff u hear now. Yeah I know about the fact that the demo's are shifting away from it, but there is an audience for this format here in the valley, and they will go to AM for it.

Call letters for this are WJGK. (Another "K" call in metro Poughkeepsie!!!) The CP shows a five tower array at a location along 9W that is actually NORTH of Highland, with a very deep NULL SSE during the day (equivalent of about 30 or 40 watts) which would be right in the direction of downtown Poughkeepsie. WJGK would not have a competitive Poughkeepsie signal if built per the CP. They might be planning on revising the CP when they find a site South of Highland and Poughkeepsie, since the main beam of the signal day and night is NNE.
