Super Bowl Broadcast

I am going to the game in Miami...is there any chance I can listen to the WWL broadcast? Are they going to be allowed a low power signal like they use in the Superdome? Is there an affiliate in the area who will simulcast?

Are they going to be allowed a low power signal like they use in the Superdome

'L -- and before then, 1280 back when WGSO/WODT carried the Saints -- gets away with the in-Dome repeater due to the almost 100% shielding that the metal skin of the Dome provides. The repeater's signal never gets past the front door to the outside world, and all parties are happy. Dolphin Stadium is open to the elements, so... an in-stadium rebroadcast on 870 or 105.3 is not likely.

On the other hand, I want to recall that part of the "gift bag" for those of us slobs who were lucky enough to attend the post 9-11 NOLA Superbowl was a neat little fixed-frequency radio, on which you could select the PBP of either team. I'd pull out that radio and look, but Katrina made all my SB souvenirs go bye-bye. :(

At least for here in Baton Rouge, the NFL shuts down the network in favor of their own po$t-sea$on broadca$t$, so the only PBP you are likely to hear down there is Westwood One's call on one of the MIA sports signals (560, 640, 850, 790 or 1400)

Lemme ask a bud who is in a position to know. I'll also ask him if 870 will literally turn around their signal and aim it at S. Florida, such as they did during the '62 Cuban Missile Crisis, but that's also not likely to happen, hah.

If you want to go the expensive way, you could check Sirius/XM 's web page to see if they are rebroadcasting the WWL's feed, and get a portable sat-radio. You will just have to deal with the delay.

OneTime, hope you have a great time
at the game.
You don't have many options to hear 870 or the Saints' Net, though.
1) "Deep Transmitter" (my bud at WWL) tells me they were going to be a channel on the NFL 'rental radios', but the NFL 'ran out of bandwidth'.
Thus the choices will be audio from CBS TV, the Westwood 1 radio feed, or Univision (para Espaniol I suppose).
2) As for over-the-air reception, that's not likely. It was bad when I lived in S. Fla 20 years ago, and now there
is a lot more 'junk' on the AM band. Plus there is a local 880 in Miami.

Oh well, at least you get to go!

Sorry for the strange formatting, first time I've tried posting from a Blackberry (no preview function)

Thanks DT. My Entercom "sister station" option petered out as well...the only stations are in Gainesville. It is not going to be the same without Jim and Hokie. But a good time I will have indeed. Thanks for checking...

Bring your radio -- this was posted on the Saints Radio Network's Facebook page last night:

New Orleans Saints Radio Network Saints fans at the stadium can listen to the Saints Radio Network Super Bowl broadcast in Miami on 107.1 FM

Now that the game is over, I figured I'd post Wilkie's game prediction here: This is an exact cut and paste: "Ned, thanks for asking for my expert prediction - you know nobody knows the Saints like I do. Here goes: The Colts will start out fast and jump to a quick 10-0 lead. The Saints will try to come back, but probably run into a tough defense, settling for a couple of field goals. I see the halftime score at probably 10-6. After the half, Payton will do something very bold to get the Saints back into the game. They will get hot, and the defense will stiffen. The Saints will finally pull ahead, and maybe do a little razzle dazzle with, say, a two point converstion. Payton will also probably pull another great replay challenge out of his trick bag at some point. After the Saints go up by a touchdown, Manning will try to tie it up late with a big drive. But, I think Manning will eventually make a big mistake (perhaps an errant pass that is picked off and returned for a TD?) and the game will end in regulation with the Saints up probably 31-17."

That would have been amazing if WWL pointed their tower at Miami, but like one of the other posters pointed out, Miami has WZAB-AM 880 that runs nighttime ops, so that station would have bled over 870's portion of the dial.

That being said, I think WWL boosted their signal higher than the alotted 50kw that night, because I was able to pick up WWL clear as a bell in Austin during the Super Bowl, not in my car, but in my house. There was hardly any static at all, it was like I was in Kenner.

I usually don't "turn down the sound" as Hokie always wants us to do, but I was extremely nervous when we were down 10-0. I was glad I did, because if not I wouldn't have heard Jim Henderson's game-ending call, "Get Ready to Party with the Lombardi New Orleans!"

I still can't believe the Saints won the Super Bowl!!!!!!!!!!

Ned, I'm starting to think you are Kenny Wilkerson, or his life partner (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Yep, somewhere in the 7th layer of Hell, when Pierre & Boudreaux saw the snowflakes on that February 7th night, they were jumping up and down excitedly, screaming, "The Saints won the Super Bowl! The Saints won the Super Bowl!"

He is. No doubt. Why else would ned bring up a guy NOBODY talks about. Sad.
Enough, Kenny/ned.
Wilkie is the only thing this guy posts about.

What do you mean NOBODY talks about Wilkie? I know of at least two people who listen to his great radio show, and I am SURE that they talk about him at least occasionally. (Okay, it's his mom and dad, but, nevertheless, they DO listen and, I assume, talk about their son.)

Wilkie is a god - admit it. Enberg, Costas, Cosell, Henderson, and Hap all rolled into one.

Ok, now I'm convinced. Ned=Kenny Wilkerson

The worst of the posts was when Ned/Kenny said Kenny predicted every single play of the Super Bowl. He predicted the onside kick, the interception, the 2-point conversion, and then, of course, the final score.

I could see a guy predicting the final score, I came close to predicting the Saints-Cardinals final score. But claiming to predict the onside kick? Claiming to have predicted something that has never happened before (an onside kick before the 4th Quarter in a Super Bowl) that is where I have to pull out the BS card.

Kenny,

You should change your name to Ned Ryerson. It is a whole lot cooler than Kenny Wilkerson.
