Super Bowl Halftime & Apple TV

I would say Carrie Underwood is somewhat in the same territory as Eric Clapton when it comes to COVID-related controversies.

Otherwise, I would agree the likes of Kane Brown and Darius Rucker would be less controversial choices, with the only concern being that they have less of a presence on pop charts.
Not one of the 1994 acts was impacting the pop charts. The country boom of the early '90s was pretty much a country-format-only affair, save for the occasional AC crossover like Mary Chapin Carpenter's "Passionate Kisses." Besides, it may be only a matter of time before Brown is a pop and/or r&b star.

TBH, I've forgotten about Underwood's COVID stance. Has she said anything about it lately? It's been awfully quiet on that front so far as celebrities weighing in goes, I think. A country halftime show would need a female star, and she's probably the biggest out there now. I'd prefer Miranda Lambert, but her chart success is sporadic and she's a complete unknown outside of country music. "All Kinds of Kinds," complete with audience hand waving, would make for a great "message" set closer, though!

I hope the Roc Nation long-term deal rumor (and since I've only seen it here, with no link, I'm still considering it such) is false, because as you said, they'd be unlikely to reach out to country acts.

Unless the 49ers are one of the finalist teams I won't be watching the Stupid Bowl. If they are then I will pass on the pregame, halftime and post game. Or perhaps I will volunteer for BBQ duty.

At least the Packers, Cowboys, and Brady won't be there. Beyond that, I'll just watch the game itself and ignore the BS before, after, and commercial breaks.

He would be A better halftime show
But, as mentioned upthread, the company putting together the halftime shows apparently has a record of only promoting rhythmic acts. No one's going to dance to "Starting Over" or "Millionaire." I still think Kane Brown will eventually become a major pop star. That might be the only way a country artist will ever be on the halftime show for the foreseeable future, but he won't be allowed to do any of his country hits if he is.

Two more good reasons for me to ignore The Stupid Bowl.

Oh yeah, there's also somewhat of a pro football game too. Glad it's on the other side of town.

But no matter which of the four teams goes to the "Stupid" Bowl, it's bound to get RATINGS because the teams WILL NOT be slouches (Especially the Chiefs, Bengals & Eagles)

I'm sure if some GOP-loving conservative recording artist (i.e. "safe") was performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, some folks here would be jumping for joy.
It will be a major help. Goodwill stores are in desperate need of clearing their inventory of Carrie Underwood CDs. (They may still need some help clearing those LPs from Mantovani and James Last, though.)

I've always found it more useful to do anything else on Stupid Bowl Day - because there's no traffic.

So I was watching the Rihanna performance during the Super Bowl halftime show. And she was dressed in a big flowing gown. But at one point, she drew attention to her stomach, and it appeared that she was pregnant. So I immediately did a search, and there was nothing about her being pregnant that I could find on the web. So now, I see I wasn't the only one, and that her rep has confirmed that she is in fact pregnant with her second child.

"Pregnant" was trending on Twitter before Rihanna had even stepped off stage at the Super Bowl halftime show, with fans wondering if the singer, who had her first child last year, was expecting again.
Following her performance, a representative for Rihanna confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that she is pregnant.

I have to say I watched that performance very closely, and I still wonder how much was real, and how much was special effects. I'm sure we'll all know soon enough.

I suspect that the only actual live, unenhanced singing heard last night was by Babyface (on "America the Beautiful") and Chris Stapleton ("Star-Spangled Banner"). The woman who performed "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was almost comically lip-syncing every word.

Our Fox affiliate in PHX had a morning show poll of the six most enjoyable 'things' of The Stupor Bowl. Rihanna was dead last with a rating of 6%. The top item was rated 45% (I forgot just what it was).

Here's an analysis of the TV coverage from the Arizona Republic:

The radio coverage was also very good. Kevin Harlan and former Cardinals QB Kurt Warner. Kevin asked Kurt if he preferred the roof open or closed. He said he always preferred the roof closed.
