Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Lineup Announced (2022)

Well, that's just irritating as hell.
It took me a few watches to get the deeper meaning of the halftime show advertisement, which is actually pretty neat with the chess pieces 'aligning' with the stars. The music though, was a pain for my ears. Also the ad was like 90 seconds to long LOL

This just in: It's an all-rap and R&B halftime this year.

Other suckage:
Pepsi
Rap
R&B (which will likely turn out to be Hip-Hop)

The 2022 Super Bowl will be played at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles. It's a local gig for most of these performers.

As it will be for the Rams.

That is my thought, based on the radio data that shows that their collective music genre is only preferred or used by a minority percentage of listeners.

On the other hand, after the last 18 months, it's sociologically an appropriate thing to do at this time. Those who don't agree can tune out and listen to some Morgan Wallen songs.

Disagree. Because one does not admire their 'music' does not mean one is a racist. Because I abhor opera (which I do) does not mean I dislike Italians (or Germans). OTOH, I love to visit the cantina and listen to mariachi but I would never want to live in Mexico.

And for the ad industry it is a showcase for creativity. Those Super Bowl sports are on every participating agency's demo reel.
Remember the great Budweiser commercials of decades past? I loved those BUT, because I considered Budweiser utter horse piss, I have yet to purchase one. Those ads might have made a mark in my mind but never in my stomach.

Music is an art form ... but what constitutes 'music'? Someone pounding upon a wooden log with a piece of bamboo might be considered music in some cultures but unless it was Gene Krupa it would probably not be in American (Western?) culture.

Like visual art, musical art is in the eyes of the beholder. Those who support their favorites do so with their purchases. It is not required of them to support genres they don't like. The audience will usually determine what music rewards its creator and what does not.

In this specific case I will vote with my off button because (a) I don't consider it actual music and (b) I detest the life style which it represents. But before you accuse me of being a racist also consider I don't listen to Country songs about swilling down rotgut whiskey to resolve someone's failed relationship either.

Senor Edwardo posted earlier "That is my thought, based on the radio data that shows that their collective music genre is only preferred or used by a minority percentage of listeners."

I find it somewhat astounding that the advertising suits on Madison Avenue do not recognize the above but then Noo Yawk Sity isn't really Americana, is it?

But that is why most significant agency buys cover various music and radio formats because they know that there is limited duplication and lots of fragmentation.

The get-off-my-lawn brigade has entered the chat. 😂

Or in my case more like, GET the H3LL off my lawn and STAY the H3LL off my lawn (LOL!) Seriously though, this board appears to be populated primarily, obviously not exclusively, by the over 50 crowd. It's not unreasonable to expect that someone, like I am, who is still interested in DXing AM radio stations would be super-pumped about this line up. If this roster included my dream line-up of Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz and Smashing Pumpkins, I'm sure there would be an equal amount of disdain here as well as on message boards that target other age groups whose members have different musical tastes.

By the way, if I could barely make it through that excruciatingly long promo, there's no way I can make it through the entire half-time show. Guess I'll get a head start on washing those party dishes!

That's the perfect time to offer to go get more party snacks! "Okay, I'm off to the store, let me know when the third quarter begins!" 🤣

It took me a second to realize that was a prediction you was trying to sneak in there. And for the record, I agree. The Rams will go to the super bowl in their own city, much as Tampa Bay did last year. I would bet money on the Rams over-coming SF to get to Sofi stadium.

I've been a San Francisco fan since high school but I don't think they can overcome the Rams. However, this playoff year has been quite the surprise so far so who knows?

To get back to the original topic, in the fragmented music of today it's almost impossible to find artists that appear to huge chunks of the population. And the few who do, like Taylor Swift or Adele, are probably dissuaded by the fact that artists get nothing to appear at the halftime show--and often ends up millions in the red.
