Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Lineup Announced (2022)

The get-off-my-lawn demographic has entered the chat.
Seems in regard to the halftime show, there was a tremendous amount of "Get off my lawn" from my generation. Geesh I guess "Up With People" was busy this week. My younger friends loved the show, my older ones were offended by the mere fact these artists were on stage
How generous of you to assume they have a mate who wants to spend time with them. 😉
Between these three posts, you end up sounding like this:

Give it a rest, would you! Now, who's the GOML crowd again? 🤣

. I’m not going to call something junk when I’m clearly not qualified to make that judgement.
Fair. None of us is qualified to call music good or bad, but our opinions are all valid.

While the super bowl wasn't my favorite, I got into it and enjoyed it.

I actually think those who better understand and enjoy the music, both those I know and don’t know, have a better handle and are quite capable of judging if it’s good or bad. The reaction among them I’ve seen skews overwhelmingly positive. That’s good enough for me.

I’d say the same if we were talking about any genre that just doesn’t click for me. It’s not junk because it’s not for me. It’s not junk because I’m past the target age. It’s not junk because I’m not the primary demographic.

💯% Agree.

My wife, who can't be driven away from these "halftime" shows with a stick, lasted less than one minute. Mr. I Told You So didn't dare open his mouth.

I slept through the first half and watched pieces and parts of the second half with Al Michaels muted (can't stand that NOO YAWK gasbag). IMHO every preliminary game was much better than the STOOPID BOWL.

Cinncy had two full weeks to design a defense against the ONE great offensive Ram and still could not do it. Embarrassing!

At least I wasn't dumb enough to bet the farm on a Cinncy win. Texas mattress guy wagered a total of 9 million on a Cinncy win AND DIDN'T TAKE THE POINTS.

its message powerful but depressing and fouled by far too much middle-school-level swearing for the sake of swearing.
Agreed.
I struggle to accept "sampling" and synthesized beats as creative musicianship.
I think sampling is a good idea when you find new creative uses of good music.

Synthesized beats I don't normally care for. Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" is one of the few exceptions. And Harold Faltermeyer's "Axel F" has to be the best song of its type.

I figured out that most of the rap I like was included disco, such as "Rapper's Delight", which is my favorite rap song.

The halftime show was actually good. There have been many that were far worse. I don't particularly like any of this years acts, but as a performance it was fine.

Sometimes great players like Cooper Kupp just make plays. Remember Tom Brady? The Bengals defense stuffed the Rams running game. Both teams made adjustments. It was hardly an embarrassing performance. Either team could have won this game.

The mattress guy can afford to lose his bet. Most luckless bettors never learn that the house always wins...

And the staging in the new stadium was fun and interesting. I can, like you, think of those that were much worse.

And that made it a "good to the last drop" game.

Better odds than a lottery ticket, though.

any rapper performing in a halftime show 30 years ago would be labelled a sellout, I'm sure MC Hammer would have accepted an offer, no one even bothers to run half time counter programming anymore, no Celebrity Death match or Butt-bowl on MTV

any rapper performing in a halftime show 30 years ago would be labelled a sellout,

The reason Dr. Dre organized this particular show was to give the money to an educational charity he believes in. The other performers support Dre in that charity and appeared because of him.

At least there is always the aninal related spin offs. Puppy Bowl, Kitten Bowl, etc.

Cooper Kupp is my Yakima hero today. Graduated from Davis HS, star football player, went on to Eastern and was a star there, drafted into the Rams. He will go down in history, just like Phil and Steve Mahre in the '84 Sarajevo Winter Olympics who also hail from the Yakima Valley and won gold and bronze in the slalom. And he's got brothers below him. I watched with family at home yesterday, but I can't imagine what the reactions in Yakima bars looked like on that game-winning TD!!!

You might have heard his MVP speech..."I don't deserve this honor". That's self*less*ness at its heart. He wanted to give his whole team a shoutout for reaching the climax...they are all winners today. Even Odell Beckham Jr., who got injured, is a winner today.

but those are all day, not just halftime
True. In my case, switching over to Animal Planet gives me a nice 12 minute break from all the NFL stuff, and then I'm refreshed for the second half!
