Super Estrella Playing Banda? Why? Oh Why?

Super Estrella has been playing banda lately and mixing it up with their pop format. Why? Oh Why? Is Exitos kicking their ass that they have to do this?

Banda Music SUCKS!!!! Three Spanish music station that I only listen to are Exitos 93.9, SuperEstrella 107.1, and K-LOVE 107.5. Banada music is ghetto. It's mostly low class mexicans listens to this. If you go to major cities in Mexico like Mexico City. A lot of people hate this kind of music.

just because you dont like it, doesnt mean that it sucks. If there wasnt a market for it, there wouldnt be stations playing it...maybe the music on Super Estrella sucks, apparently nobody is listening to that.

It is very typically reactionary of Super Estrella....they make tweaks, (some small, some major...english language crossover for 2 months...), every 6 months....the management team that has been in place for years now hates keeping things the same for any length of time, so they have developed the policy of making changes just for the sake of change....6 years ago they had a top 10 total market morning show...now they have poor ratings in their own demo just against the Spanish language competition.

Actually that is not entirely true E-Dawg. I'm with you in that I'm not a huge fan of '"banda" which many years ago was only heard in Sinaloa state and the northern part of Mexico, but thanks to Banda El Recodo and others that music has extended to other parts of Mexico. In Jalisco where Mariachi was born you go to the towns and you hear banda. In Mexico City the majority of "capitalinos" prefer other types of music but you do have stations that play musica "grupera" which includes banda. That being said the reason in Los Angeles and other cities in the U.S. spanish radio stations play banda is because most Mexican immigrants come from small towns in states like Sinaloa,Zacatecas,Michoacan etc. where banda is heard. Superestrella has been a mess lately and I don't know what the suits at Entravision have in mind there. They recently lost their afternoon DJ Ms. Garza to Univision TV and La Regadera de la Mañana was once a top morning show. Playing banda seems like not a smart move for that station which once was a good pop spanish station that played good rock en español. People that want Banda will always listen to KBUE or La Nueva. I prefer Exitos myself. Superestrella might as well become another "Jose" and just play whatever they want then.

I somewhat agree. Even though I'm not hispanic, I do happen to listen to Spanish-language radio like the "La Kalle" stations.
