Super Hits and super segues!

Midday guy at WASK or whoever is picking your music for you,
You've officially sucked all the joy out of the following songs to where I can't listen to them anymore:
---Margaritaville by Buffet
---Piano Man from Billy Joel
---Sweet Caroline from Neil Diamond
---Amie by Pure Prairie League
Next time they come up, hit "pass" or "next" or whatever button is on the automation and go to the next one. Just for me? Please?
And maybe change that pseudo "Beach Boys" music you use underneath for every talkover? STALE!!!!

Also, isn't one of radio's oldest rules to NEVER come out of a jingle with a downbeat song?
"Super Hits! The bestest awesomest fun hit songs for the workday! Yippee yahooooo!" followed by
"You never close your eyes..." AAARRRRGH!! What a car-crasher out of a commercial break!
Also count how many times a week WASK does that with "Homeward Bound" and "Scarborough Fair" by S&G. Or with "If You Could Read My Mind" from Lightfoot or "Have to Say I Love You in a Song" by Croce. All out of uptempo songs over there?
I'd even settle for "Sundown" or "Edmund Fitzgerald" out of a jingle!!

Seems like simple stuff. And, yes, I'll confess right up front that I'm the ONLY listener who notices this. But who cares? It's MY radio! :)

Dude, Chill out. Man, don't you know the program director is the biggest downer we know. Stomping in the halls and stalking us in the breakroom. Nobody can even take a breath that would make you happy. Let alone play the right song. Grab your knob and turn it. Have a nice day! ;D

Unplugged.....
Does the PD come to your job and knock the mop out of your hand? If he does, then I'm sorry, but if not you do have more choices than paper or plastic. As far as the "radio rules", please enlighten us with those, and maybe we can be in the business and as successful as you have apparently been, otherwise, find another station to listen to during your smoke break.

Note to self: NEVER put anything on here as a radio listener. Only cater to the industry and keep stroking their egos and say everything they do is great so it will never change. Got it!

"Smoke break", "mop in my hand", "paper or plastic", etc etc. All good stuff (Ouch!, my sides. I get it! I must work in a factory or WalMart, or somewhere that doesn't count if you own a radio. Being a jock or a sales guy for a radio station makes you an elitist looking down upon other jobs? Okaaaay...), but the witty jibes don't give me any insight as to why I'm actually hearing this on the airwaves and the folks in charge can't do any better when little things like appear to be so easy to change. I wasn't suggesting they change formats, or engineers, or even PD's. I could care less about any of that nonsense.
I listen to one of my favorite local stations and see room for improvement. How different is that from going to your favorite diner or car dealership and putting a note in the "suggestion box"? Is radio so great that it's insulated from simple criticism like that?

It's official: Redundancy and mediocrity rule! Habit, as long as you "in the business" don't have any input from listeners on this site or elsewhere, is that the best way to do the business of radio (your shift, your show, etc)?

Does everyone who works in Lafayette radio feel that way? They are above improvement or criticism to make their product sound even a LITTLE BIT better?

Wiener, the "turn the dial" theory doesn't work when you like 80% of what your favorite oldies station is doing. I'd "grab the knob" if I wasn't happy with most of the programming, right? Locally, I've got Jeff 92 and WASK-FM for a chance to find Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Lemon Pipers, so I want my home teams to WIN, otherwise I wouldn't point out things as an avid listener to hopefully make them more listenable.
Also, I'm pointing these things out because I listen for a good amount of time. I'm not flying off the handle with a laundry list of changes after just tuning in for a couple of days (like a consultant would do).

Excuse me. I have to get back to mopping up...

Lafayette, you came on here with a condescending attitude, singling out one person and being an ass. So of course people are gonna lash out at you. Furthermore, this site is not a suggestion box, and no one asked for your opinion. But since you saw fit to offer it up, deal! :p

Sometimes the easiest things to fix are the last to be fixed. Often people inside a radio station don't even realize it.

You know some people can't tell the difference ANYMORE between Wask Radio and wibn radio. :p And Bob Radio beat Wask Radio in the RATINGS. :p Maybe the pd should get his fat a$$ out out of the director's chair and let the DJ have their voices back in the community.

I got to sample the Lafayette market Saturday afternoon on a trip to western Indiana. How in the world can anyone even listen to "BOB?" I had to turn my radio almost to the max and then the audio was so tinny it was almost unbearable. Was it just my radio?

Ten Four, that's what I am talking about, you can't even hear BoB Radio...it's not just your radio dude. And Bob Radio beat Wask Radio in the RATINGS. :p What the HELLO is going on? Don't SHOOT the DJ.

Saying this forum isn't a suggestion box or a place where you can offer up your opinions is like saying people shouldn't blog or something.
Nonsense. This site merely EXISTING is asking people for their opinions or suggestions, SheJay, or they would build it to NOT take posts.

You went after me personally on that one, SheJay, but you didn't address anything other than I pointed out that I sited the midday guy as a point of reference. I didn't call him names/by name or anything. Address what I offered up or why I'm hearing what I'm hearing and we'll discusss it. Please don't just counter with name-calling nonsense, spew hate and then bail without addressing the actual issues. Such abuse on this site makes me sick. "Here's my hate! Now I gotta go!"
People lashing out or going after a poster personally is fine if that's all they've got (I guess?). I'm more interested in the "why doesn't somebody fix that?" when I hear something on the radio. I think I was the first person to offer up the "Why does Bob sound so tinny and quiet" topic weeks ago. It looks like people are still interested in that from what I'm reading right here. Or maybe they are just being condescending by having the AUDACITY to be critical of a Lafayette radio station, SheJay?
I'm just a listener and so I'm not going to pout or call names if somebody goes after the station where I work. Probably makes it easier to sort out who's posting from outside the industry and who's posting from inside?
I think bigtime touched upon this idea in his simple response.

I'll keep offering up whatever I think about Lafayette radio until they shut this site down or post something that says,
"No opinions or suggestions about Lafayette radio, please". SheJay, you were the only one that thought I was going after someone or being condescending about anything. Sorry if you read it that way. But it's not like I'm making stuff up or dreaming.
IT'S WHAT I HEAR WHEN I LISTEN TO THAT STATION!

Can't anybody/everybody be a grown up and say, "Here's why they keep playing that song into the ground the same shift week after week" or "here's why they play a slow dirgy song out of an upbeat jingle coming out of the spot break"?
It's just OPINIONS, folks. WORDS. IDEAS. We're discussing 30/40-year-old music and people reading off index cards over the airwaves, right? Not cures for cancer...

PS Wiener, you know I love you like a brother, but the only Arbitron data I could find where BOB beat WASK was in the 18-24 demos. Which ratings were you referencing?
BOB did well but WASK and WKOA still dominated just about every demo AGAIN.

Listener opinion is the only one that matters.....so check the scoreboard.

WASK has been a ratings winner for years, including the last book where they showed up HUGE. End of argument

Excuuuuuse me. I'm not going to get in trouble at work......stations paid to subscribe to Arbitron. Call k105mark to break it down for you. Bob Radio with a tinny signaL took listeners from WASK Radio. :p That is the facts and Lafayette Unplugged is right, some changes need to be made at Wask and it is not the DJ.
