Super Sunday II: NASCAR vs. NBA vs. the Oscars!!!!

Billy Crystal's going to have a lot of company next Sunday (Feb. 26), because the NBA All-Star Game on TNT will be happening opposite the Academy Awards on ABC! But hours before that, we have the Daytona 500 on Fox.

This should be called Super Sunday II because you have one of auto racing's biggest events, basketball's biggest event, and of course entertainment's biggest event all in one day!!! But when it's all said and done, I think the Oscars will come out on top as they are the granddaddy of them all.

Now if somebody can schedule something big opposite Wrestlemania...

All will probably do well for each event's target demo. I'd bet that the Oscars and the Daytona 500 have more overall viewers than the NBA All-Star Game (both will be on network TV). But I'd also bet the basketball game on TNT will have more younger viewers watching and simultaneously using Facebook & Twitter.

Except for those in Hawaii, where they'll have to avoid Twitter/Facebook for a few hours (the Oscars will once again be LIVE here in Alaska at 3:00 while Hawaii won't see it until 6:00 their time).

Which reminds me...when Destiny's Child played the UAF Patty Gym in 2000 (this is when they had four members including Beyonce), I and everybody else made sure we had our VCRs set before we headed out to the show, and why? BECAUSE IT FELL ON THE SAME NIGHT AS THE OSCARS!!!!

Uh.. I would hardly call the NBA all-star game basketball's "biggest event."

I was a little hesitant to call it the biggest event involving the NBA (the Finals?), but it is the biggest neutral show put on for all NBA fans. I think the NFL would love to have the Pro Bowl mean something similar to All-Star Week/Weekend that the NBA and MLB have. Guess they'll have to make due with the Super Bowl, though. ;D

If last night's Bud Shootout is any indication the upcoming Daytona 500 will be yet another boring roundy-round interrupted by a couple of field-shortening crashfests.

Still beats the hell out of basketball and the Oscar yawner.

Usually, the Daytona 500 is scheduled on the Sunday before President's Day - which is today. Is NASCAR pulling an NFL and pushing the season later so that more of their final races air during the November sweeps?

I asked that on http://www.the506.com/smf/index.php?topic=12187.25 (I post on there sometimes, using my R-I handle; registration is required to see the boards there) and the explanation is this: The NFL has been rumored to adopt an 18-game sked eventually, which would push the SB to President's Day weekend, and NASCAR is anticipating that move by moving Daytona to a week later.
