Super Talk Comes to Meridian

Just in case you haven't heard, as of Monday WZKR/Meridian is changing from country and joining the Super Talk Mississippi network. Scotty Ray and Debbie are out and pursuing other interests. As for me, I'm not sure yet but B103 was a fun ride even though I was only on the air occasionally and mostly did production. I'm finished with paramedic school and waiting certification testing and we'll have to wait and see if I will be staying at 'ZKR or if my services are no longer needed. Even if the latter is the case, Ron Harper is an amazing owner and boss. Ron's been a part of my radio career from day one and he's a great mentor. Even if I'm no longer working for him, I wish him well and stand ready to assist him in any way I'm able to in the future.

Meridian radio has been pretty stagnant for many years but with the changes in ownership with the Urban/CC properties, we'll see more changes I'm sure. I can't wait to see what shakes. For the first time since I first cracked a mic on Q101 in December of 2000, these are exciting times in Meridian.

Gee, I imagine it's gonna sound as piss-poor as all the other Supertalk affiliates do. I don't need to comment on the format, the hosts or anything like that. But I do want to say Supertalk is the WORST sounding cluster of FM talkers I've ever heard, and I've heard FM talk from coast to coast. The WORST. Whatever they're using to feed the stations is horrid. I spent some time listening to the Oxford, Greenwood and Jackson stations and they all had serious clarity and quality issues.

It's not like they're in uncharted territory or anything. There's FM talk in Nashville, Little Rock, Birmingham and New Orleans that all sound like someone's actually caring about the audio.

Sorry Meridian folks. Rant over.

I am glad that Supertalk is coming to Meridian. No trying to hear The station in Jackson and battling WOKK at the same time. If it wasn't for WOKK, supertalk's Jackson Station could be heard in Forest and I on many occasions have tuned my radio to 97.35 to get rid of the co channel interference from WOKK while listening to Dave Ramsey.

Weekdays:

Paul Gallo (mornings)
The JT Show (middays)
Dave Ramsey (early afternoon)
Marshall Ramsey (late afternoon)
Neal Boortz (nights)
Lars Larsen (late nights)
Coast to Coast (overnights)

Basically, typical right-wing talk. They do have your typical gardening and fix-it shows on the weekends, as well as a blues show on Sunday nights and NFL play-by-plays during the season.

Supertalk used to sound like it was being fed by a dial up modem or a cell phone. Its better than it used to be, but still very bad. They even have a blues music show on sunday night which sounds like everything is under water. Most AM stations sound better than supertalk. I've noticed that audio quality has actually gotten worse on not only Supertalk but other stations as well, since everything went digital. So much stuff is low bitrate these days. I think the younger generation is so used to listening to bad audio from cellphones and youtube that they have forgotten what good audio is supposed to sound like.

I don't know if this includes the entire network or not, but I seem to recall the Oxford and Greenwood stations carrying Ole Miss college football.

SuperTalk in Jackson does as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Max 99 (Telesouth's other station there) carry Ole Miss football?

Both stations do football, and I could certainly be wrong about who carries what in Greenwood. One had Ole Miss and one had Miss State.
