Super Tropo Nov 29th

I just have to mention the great tropo event of November 29th, from late the evening of the 28th through late morning on the 29th from the Great Lakes area to the Northeast. I logged 5 new DTV stations here in Poughkeepsie, NY.. WNYO-49 Buffalo, NY, CFPL-10 London, ON, CHCH(2)-51 London, ON, WSEE-35 (digital 16) Erie, PA, and WPTD-16 Dayton, OH my most distant at 561 miles. Total DTV logs now 274.

Check out my CHCH(2) reception on YouTube: https://youtu.be/w9jQ1D733B8

Other DXers with better locations/antennas did even better. A veteran DXer on Cape Cod got Cleveland stations WEWS and WQHS. And another DXer in Illinois managed to get WCBS-2 New York.. 713 mile DTV DX!
Here this was the best tropo event of the year... more characteristic of September than late November.

Wow! And like you say dtvdxer, this is not the time of year to expect this.

When I lived in the northeast, the summer was the time I got FM and TV tropo.

Nice catches!

Was that CHCH program a "700 Club" segment or a stand-alone infomercial? Either way, it's got to be at least 8 years old, since Jerry Falwell, who appears in it, died in 2007 -- maybe several years older, given his and Pat Robertson's physical appearance. If it's advertising, it's got a ways to go to beat the John Williams/120 Music Masterpieces commercial for longevity, but it's off to a great start.

CHCH was not the "700 Club". I guess it was a long form fund-raising public service spot, very much like an infomercial. It is a bit odd using a dead spokesman. As far as El Nino, there may be a connection... I don't know.
Meanwhile, there are indications more tropo coming this weekend, perhaps more so in the Great Lakes / Midwest than here in the Northeast.
