Superbowl commercials

I can handle Budweiser ads, but after this year, I hope they lose the 'cute' Clydesdales/donkeys/ponies/whatever who want to pull the beer wagon when they 'grow up'.
I thought all the good ads aired in the first quarter-the Fed Ex 'caveman' ad and the 'Bud Lights hidden around the office' were very clever, but they went downhill from there.
GoDaddy.com got more hype for what they couldn't show than for what they did.
And another ad I'm sick of: Careerbuilder.com, and the stupid monkeys!
The game was better than the ads-but only slightly.

The spot that did it for me was the "Hidden Fridge" one where the guy's fridge goes into the next door apartment and the guys are worshiping the mysterious fridge. That was a good one, but one of the only ones this year I thought...

The Americaquest "don't judge too quickly" ads were pretty good...one wonders if Budweiser could sell their beer for a buck less a bottle if they didn't run so darn many SB ads.

This year's Super Bowl commercials were almost all dull and boring.

The only one I liked was a Diet Pepsi spot with Jackie Chan, in which he co-stars with a can of Diet Pepsi in a martial-arts movie.

In the final scene, they replace the Diet Pepsi can with a "stunt can"---a can of rival Diet Coke that gets squashed by a Kung-Fu chop!

Canada then, had at least three good ads this year. They were all for Bell Canada, and all their services. Two beavers auditioning to become the new official spokespeople for bell...and they get the job!

See all three ads here by clicking on their tv: www.Frankandgordon.ca

Yes. Saw that one. The way they made themselves look like a burger! Excellent!
______________

The AmeriQuest one with the doctors and the fly...

BZZT! "That killed 'im."
O_O!

Perfect!)

We could've did without that one. A Wendy's ad with the Square Burger characters would've been nice. As for BK, they've done worse. Remember the Herb campaign that started at Super Bowl XX in 1986?

Nobody mentioned this one...

I especially liked the Sprint commercial where he threw the phone at the guy.

But did anyone notice the Toyota commercial with the hispanic people?

"Why did you learn English Daddy?"

"For our future"

What was up with that??
______________

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't catch all of that one. I usually skip the commercials for a trip to the kitchen but the one time I had enough Coke and chips was when that dreadful Hummer spot came on. Maybe the worst SB spot of all time.

Bring back the beer commercials of our youth, pouring into the glass and letting it flow over the rim. THAT'S a beer commercial!

That Diet Pepsi one did stand out for me, too, but they really need to rethink their new slogan. "Brown and Bubbly" just sounds too much like something you'd hear in an ad for Imodium or Mexican tap water.

Wow! I can't believe that ad resonated with anyone! It seemed typical of the lousy marketing campaigns that have dogged BK in recent years. Certainly did NOT make a Whopper seem appetizing or make us want to buy one.

My wife and I just looked at each other and said "2.5 million dollars down the drain."

We liked the Careerbuiler.com one with the monkees partying. And, Anheiser Busch had a bunch of great ads. The Dove one belonged on an episode of "The Young and The Restless" more than on the Super Bowl.

By the way, brown and bubbly for Diet Pepsi? eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww! :p

The Sprint ad with the phone and the what if questions was also great!
A new song on the phone for every situation.
then "What if your couch is on fire?"
And it really was on fire, so they went to Benny hill music and delt with it classic Benny Hill style! LOL! That ties with the other sprint ad as being the best humourous ad this year, on my opinion.

(respects going out to the Bell Canada ads that blocked those ads out in Canada, which still deserve to be known as very good super bowl ads www.frankandgordon.ca to view, click on the tv. )

D'oh! You're right!
The ad was memorable, and, at least to me, more entertaining than many of the half times of previous superbowls.
However, they should always remember what the ad was MEANT to do!
There's nothing there to stick when tomorrow comes along and I see an ad with a REAL burger from another place.
I'll most likely go there instead. No questions asked!
______________

I loved seeing the coke can get crushed as the stunt double, but what did any of that ad have to do with the number of calories or what ever diet pepsi doesn't have that pepsi has? (or diet coke for that matter?)
______________

Two more not mentioned...

Even though they weren't commercials, no one mentioned the two ABC promos that made me sit up and take notice, although for different reasons.

First, the Desparate Housewives spots with the athletes and celebs talking about the show were just about gut-busting hilarious. Tony Hawk and the punchlines with Hugh Hefner were great, but Shaq's fake tears were the best part.

Then, the promo for Lost set to "Addicted to Love."
My wife looked over at me and she wasn't sure if I was going to throw up or spit nails, I was so angry at the promo. Why take a very serious drama and promo it in a way that goes 180 degrees the other way? You think CBS would set a CSI spot to music? Just stupid, ABC.

I can understand ABC promoing Lost and Housewives, as well as the episode of Gray's Anatomy and the Michael J Fox episodes of Boston Legal, so hard... I can even understand promoing the new Lorne Michaels' show, even though to me it looks like it will suck rocks... but not one promo for either Alias or Invasion? What's up with that?
