Superbowl (so far)

I think some people are losing sight of two things:

1: The goal of the Super Bowl is to make money. This isn't art we're talking about. It's all commerce.

2: This particular Super Bowl was very successful at achieving goal #1.

If any of that bothers you, there are lots of other things to watch, and you're free & welcome to change the channel.

Oh, well, hell, you should have said so long ago. If money is all there is we should legalize prostitution, gambling, all manner of drugs and not hold hit men accountable for their career choice.

Fine with me. What other people choose to do is their problem. I'm not a big fan of government regulation. More for personal responsibility.

It's just a game. And gambling is a big part of the Super Bowl. That's why they show the odds on TV.

Gambling is the only reason the league announces injuries before the game.

You're in radio. You can see with your own eyes the effect that rap and hip hop (the classless kind) have on our children. You either love it and live the life style or you hate it. It is the worst type of polarization. Now it is combined with trashy sex on the big screens and we're told it is perfectly normal. BS!

The hits of J-Lo and Shakira are neither rap nor hip hop. The hits of their two guest artists are not, either.

A discussion of hip hop and rap is an entirely and totally unrelated subject.

Shakira is a latin singer, J-Lo is for the most part a pop artist with latin mixed in.

Good, direct point

J-Lo was born in New York, and had to be taught Spanish to do her leading role movie playing the Tejano music star, Selena. In fact, there was considerable criticism of that role by Tejano music and Selena fans because J-Lo is a Newyorican and Selena was Tejana, two cultures that are severely and distantly removed and unrelated.

I've yet to see any sort of 'cultural' dance that consisted of simulated sex.

While I grant that the pole dance part of J-Lo's presentation might recall a strip joint (it was taken from her recent movie, in fact) how many children go to strip joints?

And I was referring to Shakira's Middle-Eastern based movements, not the J-Low part.

You sound like... just like... the people who wanted Elvis Presley censored and who forced his first TV appearance on Ed Sullivan to be "from the waist up" only.

There are degrees of everything.

In a parallel comparison, I had a doctor who was terrified and concerned that I saw an acupuncturist. He retired, and my new doctor is very positive on the same practice, saying that I may be able to significantly control back pain with a combination of "modern" medicine and that practice.

This is just another example of differing perspectives. I see nothing immoral or degrading in the half-time show. Others do; to them I say "don't watch TV".
