Superstations back on Dish Network in Philly

For a few years, WWOR and WSBK were unavailable to Dish subscribers in Philly. WPIX, KWGN, and KTLA were also unavailable after the CW began. Looking on Dish's locals qualifying site, it appears the Superstations are available to Philadelphia subscribers once again. I know WWOR and WPIX have a cable carriage history in Philly, as they were carried in the area for many years up until the 90s, with WWOR being different from its NYC version from 1990 to 1996 due to SyndEx, and WPIX having blackouts for the same reason between 1990 and whenever they were dropped. Kind of weird as far as Atlantic City goes, as WPIX is subject to blackouts on cable, but obviously not on Dish, otherwise, it wouldn't be carried at all.

When I had Dish, Dish was charging $1.50 extra for each superstation, or $5.99 for a package of them. It was a terrible value on a per channel basis, but for those that wanted those stations, Dish offered them. Back 10-15 years ago, the superstations were somewhat nice, but they lost their value over time becoming clones of each other.

Comcast includes broadcast stations together, so it reaches everyone. With a larger audience, a local station would request syndicated exclusivity blackout on the distant superstation.

Atlantic City or parts of Atlantic County are still within 55 miles of Philly. Once, it's beyond that region, e.g. Allentown, the Philly stations can't request black outs of the distant stations (NY stations). Mercer County is within 55 miles of Philly, but the NY channels are significantly viewed which trumps the blackout rules.

Good points. I'm surprised they're even available in the Philly area again, because usually when a local station invokes Syndex on even one show that is also on a superstation, Dish doesn't sell that station at all to the market. It's a weird situation in AC, because as we know, WPIX programs are almost always blacked out on the cable systems there, yet if it's available on Dish, it won't be blacked out at all.

Yes when they all went CW they pretty much had the same programs on all of them.
Such a waste so I cancelled them also.
