SuperTalk

Listened to Valentine afternoon show today and had too local callers on, one a WLW recurring caller "Dick in Dayton". He was followed by a caller from Covington, next book for talk will be interesting, especially with Furman starting next week. My prediction? Supertalk will beat KRC in mornings and afternoons, though will still trail WLW.

Dick has been banned by all the CC stations, so the Dick in Dayton coup d'etat is unimpressive.

Supertalk will beat Hannity, but not mornings...

You really think Furman will beat Hannity? I'm not so sure.

Switching to FM talk is going to be strange, as opposed to the old AM standards.

I guess its all up to how entertaining Andy makes it. Personally, I think he can sway far away from sports if he wants to. I like his schtick when he goes way off topic for periods of time.

Dick's on Burbank's occasionally, during Sports or Consequences.

Are they getting a "too share??"

Hahaha. In my defense my fiance was bugging me about helping her with wedding invitation lists at the time. Spelling never was my strong point though. I do think a "too share" would still beat Air America though LOL.

It's amusing the way people think that Supertalk will just "die." It hasn't even gotten up to speed yet. Furman is back Monday with a live broadcast, and my guess is that he'll have some heavy hitters on the show that day. Just a month or so ago, these boards were rife with folks panning the cookie cutter format and saying "they need live and local." Now you've got Furman on weekdays and Denny McKeown on Saturday mornings. Two live and local talents that draw listeners. Andy hasn't even done his first show and the talk and controversy is already there. Sounds like a Good Thing™ to me.

We all know the first book is going to suck. The winter book is going to be all over the place because of all the changes, and not just at Supertalk. Let's worry about extending life support or writing death certificates until after Spring book. That will be a truer indication of how Supertalk is going to pan out.

The winter book is not only going to be all over the place because of the many recent frequency and format changes but also because of the fact that 2 stations went all Christmas...WARM and MIX. Should make for exciting reading!

Actually, Christmas music will show up in the Fall Book. The winter book hasn't started yet.

Ciao!

Flavin's correct. I meant that the Winter book is going to be a mess because all of the new stations (Sound, Wolf, Supertalk) are still in their nascent phase and haven't had much time to build a following. That will change as formats take form, patterns are established, etc. The fall book is going to be flat out unreliable, all of the calls and frequency changes are going to be hard to track at best.

But you're right about one thing: fall should be VERY interesting reading indeed!

Flavin is right. I meant the fall, not winter book. Got my seasons MIX(94.1)ed up.
Still a bit hungover from New Year's.

dick from dayton is a regular caller to wknr-brinda,roda and fillins and also to wtam sportsline when andre knott fills in for kevin keane--david5258

I have to agree with Wylly. Don't count on Supertalk just dying a slow and painful death. Furman has not even started yet. Personally, I don't care for him, but I know he's been popular around here for many years. He's decent from time to time. As far as mornings go....don't be surprised if Mancow does well here. I know this town has it's favorites and may not be open to a new person. Chicago was very close-minded when he first arrived. Nobody gave him a fighting chance, however, slowly but surely, he buried morning show after morning show and literally dominated his target age group like nothing anyone had ever seen before. He is a massive breath of fresh air on the radio that this town has needed for a looooooong time!!! C'mon people, The Dawn patrol...could they be any more old, tired and lame. I turn them on the help me sleep if anything. Bob and Tom...boring...95% of their guests are more entertaining than they are. Jeff & Jenn...perfect if you are a stay at home mom!! Mancow is not the "shock jock" that he has been accused of for so long. Now that he is older and married with twin girls, he has become much more of a complete host. His show has really evolved since I started listening to him back in 1994. His show may not grab you the first time or even the second or third. If he's given a chance, he'll do well, just as he has in many other markets. He's here at the perfect time with all the changes happening.

I think Furman will do well, however the rest of the station is poorly programmed. I can't see Dave Ramsey as a good lead in. Mancow just got canned from Kansas City as the station just switched to ESPN Radio and its on FM like 965.

ESPN Radio might be more successful for 965 than the Supertalk format with Furman being the local afternoon guy.

Lance McCallister will dominate Furman, poorer signal and all.

Furman's #'s on WLW paled in comparison to McCallister's in the key demographics--yet Furman receives all the attention. Go figure...
