Supertalk

Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.

And for extra credit: what's the name of the unknown soldier?

Alright, I'll throw this out there.....

I am an infrequent poster here, but a frequent lurker, native Cincinnatian who is 'home' twice a month - I gotta ask -

Is "midwestxfiles" Darryl Parks or something? Maybe a WLW staffer? It's a constant bashing of Supertalk, not much else to say. I have listened to Supertalk when I am in town and I listen online and I think they are great! WLW is being ruined and has been since: 1) McConnell went syndicated 2) Weekends started repeating 3) and the Mutual Fund Hour (or whatever it is) showed up on weekends. It truly is a sad turn of events for the station that I have been listening to since I was 7 (thanks mom for always having the radio on).

WLW is going the way of WGST in Atlanta and it sucks. WLW is being ruined and trashed. Local radio is on the outs. That sucks. I think the only people that really care are radio nuts because we are the only people that talk about it. Everyone else keeps on listening but wonders what is going on.

With all the recent hires of Supertalk, at this point, I hope they continue the local steak and go with news, weather and traffic and knock WLW out of the top. I can only listen to so many canned Jim Scott "live" interviews before I want to hit a treeb head on!!!!

R.I.P WLW :(

The only person I recall ever calling 96.5 "stoopertalk" was Bandit. I think Midwestxfiles is our WCLU lovin' friend from Ky.

I like a lot of what I hear on 96.5. It worries me that they are adding so much sportstalk. If they blow out Mancow for another sports show, I doubt that they will survive. It's too small a niche for so many stations. I hate to lose Glenn Beck again, but Cincinnati needs some good local general interest shows. Do The Angry Guys do anything other than sports?

I'd also love to see 96rock return on their HD-2. They are wasting a lot of bandwidth just running one channel of mono talk in HD.

What happened to HD on 94.9? It was there for Mojo & The Star. I'd love to hear The Sound in HD!

One reason I liked listening to the Angry Guys was they would start talking about other subjects than sports...of course the main topic was sports, pair them up with the right female and the could be a very good non-sports oriented morning show but of course in Cincinnati, the Reds and Bengals will always be a subject.

I think it's a former CC employee who was let go, tried to get on 96 and wasn't hired.

What is wrong with you people? WLW has live and local programing 24/7...OH except for the ONE HOUR on Saturday. BIG DEAL! Do you realize how many of the monster AM signals in this country run Mutual Fund Show and other syndicated programs---WJR, WLS, WBT, KMOX to name a few? Is it killing you to get one less hour of Darryl Parks & Sensible Don? You;re all lying if you said you would turn down the money for an hour of local programming, especially when your company is chopping off heads left and right.

WLW is not local in McConnell's 9-Noon slot. And if a show isn't local who cares if its live or not. Jim Scott used to be listenable but its been overproduced now with all the mini interviews and commercials. Does he ever even speak without a script anymore?

I wonder what will become of the 3-6pm slot when Burbank leaves. Will be interesting to see what happens.

What determines if something is local? When Cunningham talks about illegal immigration is he any more local than McConnel? What about the Trucking show which has been networked for years? Burbank was syndicated for a while, was he still local? When Burbank does his show from Florida is he still local?

Being local is over rated. Bing informative, interactive and entertaining is what is truly important in developing a winning radio station. WLW does a great job of that.

local and entertaining. yes, that's the combination to success.

No one cares about if the show is local, as long as its entertaining and informative(especially talk). If they did Kane on WKFS wouldn't have had the success he did when he was tracking Kiss before he left to XM in 2000-2001.

tito is the the man!

What's better: bad local or good syndicated? Why are Rush, Beck, Ingraham, Hannity, etc... so successful as syndicated shows? I don't think it's because they're bad.

Remember the 550 WLWA disaster in '93 when they did local talk all day and WCKY did syndicated during midday with Liddy & Rush? WCKY killed them and that's why they bought the station and moved it to 550. Remember "Talk Radio 550 WCKY?" It wasn't like WLWA had unknowns either. Phillips, Kathy Lehr, and Matt Reis were all doing shows there.

Give me good syndication over bad local any day, BUT give me GOOD LOCAL if you can.
