Supporting My Local AMers

There is no water-path propogation or reception here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. In fact, that might be the first time that Northeastern PA and water-path have been in the same sentence, lol.

So I was curious as to how far from here anyone has heard our local stations :

830 WEEU Reading (towers near Schuylkill County .... huge daytime signal)

930 WHLM Bloomsburg ('News radio', which plays Oldies most of the time!)

1300 WKZN Hazleton (Talk, off the WILK Network, 5000 day, 500 night, same day pattern as WLSH)

1360 WPPA Pottsville (Full service A/C ..... Big E-W signal day, small N-S signal nites)

1410 WLSH Lansford (Oldies, daytimer, 5000 watts, mildly directional like most 2-tower systems)

1450 WPAM Pottsville ('Phoenix 1450', GY, back on the air, loose Classic Rock format)

1490 WAZL Hazleton (Oldies, lots of 70s, Tampa Bay Rays games (!), GY)

* * * * * * *

And our departed
550 WHLM Bloomsburg (Soft A/C, full-service)
1480 WISL Shamokin (Oldies)
1530 WMBT Shenandoah (Satellite Oldies, local midday show)
1590 WMIM Mount Carmel (Various formats, sports being the last)

I logged WEEU on 02/12/12 @ 1718 EST on car radio in NE NC. Have not logged any of your other stations. I did not start logging until the past year or two.

I use the voice recorder on smartphone then transcribe later.

Hey Steve...in northern VA, I usually can get a trace of WEEU at mid-day, on some other days, no WEEU. This station can be heard better in sunrise/sunset periods. I never heard any other stations you listed. I once got WCDL 1440 Carbondale, PA 4 or 5 years ago during sunrise.

WEEU has an incredible signal. I picked them up daytime on the mall in Washington DC. WHLM(WJMW)at 550 in Bloomsburg with 1000 watts had quite a reach. I picked them up on Jones Beach on Long Island years ago. These days WSVA at 550 out of Harrisonburg,VA is audible in Liverpool,PA, about 45 minutes North of Harrisburg.

WHLM at 930 really reaches. They come in Lancaster and Harrisburg over WFMD and I've gotten them as far as Blossburg,Pa,which is way up Route 15 North of Williamsport.

Steve.

From SW Ohio

830/WEEU - I've logged it at least two times, between 9 - 11 PM. Most recently Sept 8 2009 @10:25 PM.

930/WHLM - No

1300/WKZN - No

1360/WPPA - No. Have a local WSAI on the frequency.

1410/WLSH - Yes. Once. Sunrise skip.

1450/WPAM - No

1490/WAZL - No

No to your dead but not forgotten list.

From West Michigan, I logged WEEU on Feb.5th, 2011 just before 0500 UTC TOH according to my log. A very weak ID was heard at a distance of 548 miles. I've never heard the others.

Steve, for what it's worth I could hear 790 WAEB Allentown at night in south Jersey a few miles from Philly back in the 70s when they played top 40.

It wasn't too strong or consistent and mixed with other unknown stations but I specifically remember WAEB because I had been listening for the old WFUN from Miami at the time which I had heard down near the shore around sunset in the car with my parents when they were driving up the Garden State Parkway near Ocean City.

After that exciting moment, I tried like crazy to hear WFUN back home but when I thought I got them, it was WAEB instead.
