Surprise

I am surprised at how quiet the story has been about the MSNBC/Time Reporter calling the President a d**k. No screams..no calls for drawing and quartering. What gives? A lame street libber gets a pass I guess...

An apology came quickly and was not the "...if I offended anyone, I'm sorry..." type. Halperin has been suspended indefinitely - that doesn't sound like getting a pass to me. I could give my personal opinion on this, but this thread would be just as quickly taken outside. ;D

I was talking primarily of the reaction. Let's be honest there are similar stories that go on for weeks in the news and late night.

As a broadcast pro he should have known better. Don't EVER say anything you would
not want going out on the airwaves if you are in the presence of a microphone. You
never know if it is live, or what channel the feed is going to. And yet it keeps happening
over and over again.

If you are talking about outside the broadcasting community I think it never reached shrill proportions because it is just too common these days - as sad as that sounds.

And within the community an apology was rapidly issued and the offender penalized. End of story. Time to move on.

In this case, it was especially stupid, as Scarborough and Brzezinski baited Halperin. Were I in charge of the show, there wouldn't be any more suspensions, but Halperin wouldn't be the only one reprimanded for this incident.

Now if he called the president a ni***er, then there would be more outcry.

I'm a liberal, and generally an Obama supporter. Some reporter decided to call him a "dick" - BFFD (which stands for 'big fat f***ing deal).

Crude? - I guess, but who cares? Obama can take it, and let's face it - this is the least of his problems.

First and foremost: Halperin shouldn't have said it. "Jerk" would have worked just as well.
Second: Scarborough and Brezenski shouldn't have baited him by saing it would be bleeped if it wasn't going to be bleeped.

I think I would have suspended all 3 for the rest of the week for the overall childish behavior they demonstrated on the show.

I'd have them come back this week after the holiday with a (hopefully) renewed sense that this should always be a more serious discussion.

And WHERE WAS AL SHARPTON ON THIS ?? I seemingly recall him subbing for Ed Schultz this past week. Normally he chimes in things like this. Guess things must be different when you're THE HOST instead of a contributor.....

Can't wait to hear Ed's reaction to this when he comes back on Tuesday.....

Cheers :D
