Survey Says: Chio's A Bonehead

There are moments of bad taste that can be humorous, others are examples of tasteles AND not funny.

File this under the latter.....

Precisely the problem with top 40 jocks and radio in general these days. Guys and gals just don't think and this kind of stupidity is what happens on FM shows all over the country every day with young jocks not knowing how to think cleverly between songs and spending too much time trying to be "Howard Stern-esk" in being what they think is cutting edge and irreverant. I get simple slips or mistakes, but to go that far to ask such a question requires at least 30 seconds of thought before speaking, doesn't it? Do you just wing a question like that without any prior thought?

...with young jocks...

Chio is like 70 though. :D

Seriously, what was the context here? Was he acting like it was a funny trivia question? Was he giggling or serious about it? Was he discussing Philadelphia's crime problem?

does not matter if he aplogized he should either be suspended or fired

Bad judgment, to be sure, but I hardly think he deserves to be fired.

it was a stunt set up so that he could announce his donation and call it a win win. trouble is the damage is already done. families and friends of officers could have been listening. in radio (as in politics) people often set out selfishly and don't care who's affected.

"The Wired 96.5 jock apologized for using the following as a trivia question in a contest on his morning show:

"How many police officers were murdered in Philly in the last 12 months?"

Ouch."

If a black jock from Radio One or WDAS-FM/WUSL had done that, they'd be off the air and then beat down, by white popo, like Rodney King, while Fox 29 cameras broadcast from their helocopter.
