Susan Arbetter leaving WMHT for WCNY

Susan is leaving the Albany PBS Channel for Syracuse's WCNY where she will take on news director role. She admitted in a Times Union blog that her "New York Now" role with WMHT was not a good fit after spending a long time with the freewheeling WAMC Radio. She's staying in Albany for the new job.

Good for Susan. She is a great person and I wish her the best of luck.

What I don't understand however is how can she stay in Albany yet run a Syracuse TV operation?

Syracuse is such a dead market I don't know why Ms. Arbetter would decide to leave Albany. At least in Albany there is news because the city is the state's capital. What does Syracuse and it's coverage area offer?
If Ms. Arbetter missed radio so much she should have gone back to her former employer. I was in Albany on business several times and heard her "Roundtable" program. She is very good on radio.
I also have to pose the question how can a News Director run an operation in one city while living in another?

Best of luck to her. I've frequently watch the program on WXXI (Does it air on every PBS station in the state?) and find it well done. The change to WCNY is somewhat drastic, especially with her overseeing things from Albany still. Does WCNY not produce that much local features?
