Susquehanna

Here is a Special Bulletin from
ALLACCESS.COM:

Cumulus and three financial partners are buying Susquehanna Radio for $1.2 billion. Susquehanna is simulteneously selling its 70% interest in its cable assets to 30% owner Comcast for $440 million.

If this true, then Charlie Morgan retired at the right time. Lew Dickey is not known for lots of corporate baggage and he has DoE now that he likes. Anyone working for them should keep their resume's curent and networking threads active.

Radio went for $1.25 billion and the cable went for $775 million. Lotta dough there, but since Cumulus is only a 25% owner in the group, vast changes may not be a reality as yet since the 75% partnership may not want to upset the financial apple cart that was so sucessful for Susquehanna to begin with. Those 33 stations made as much money as the hundreds of Cumulus stations did, so they may really want to consider that and not mess with the formula.

Update the guy from out of state please. When did Charlie leave North Shadeland Avenue?

If you read further into the article, Cumulus has the ability to become a 40% partner in the new venture with performance bonus'. Is "performance bonus" code for cutting fat wherever possible?

They speak of the recently retired Charlie Morgan who was the corporate director of engineering. Not related to the Indy Charlie Morgan.

Now that Susquehanna has been sold, how long til the hodge podge "jack" format is dumped for a format that will work like the original Gold 104.5?

I figure Cumulus will keep Jack alive until at least one year from launch and the Sprint 06 arbs are out. If it is doing well (by the standards of oldiescat, top 5 in the 25 + demo), it might live longer. I don't think Cumulus has any other Jacks, so I'm not sure if they are disinterested in the format or what exactly. Their opinion of the format obviously affects its viability on WJJK.

Cumulus doesn't do many formats it can't do in house. There's virtually no working with outside consultants. All the work is done with the corporate brand managers. Hence, Cumulus stations normally stick to the very basic formats, and that doesn't include Jack or any Jack variant.
