Sussex Ratings

Even though they're 12+, lets discuss for fun anyway.

On one note, in the past year, the Sussex market has gone from #246 to #248 and now back to #247.

1. WSUS
Obviously ALWAYS number one and I'm sure most of you know why.

2. WNNJ FM
3. WABC

4. WDHA
This surprises me since WDHA's signal is quite weak in the area. The Danbury station is normally coming in on 105.5.

5. WPLJ
6. WXRK
7. WHTZ (Z100)
8. WAXQ (Q1043)
9. WHCY (Max 106.3)
10. WLTW

I'm surprised that 1360 WNNJ shows up so poorly in the ratings. It's programmed very similarly to 1470 WKAP in Allentown, which does very well in the ratings and was able to attract most of the Oldies listeners when 99.9 WODE switched to "The Hawk". In fact, another AM Oldies station from Port Jervis, NY actually beats WNNJ in its own market!

It makes you wonder if there's something screwy going on with the way the Arbitron surverys are conducted and tabulated, because it's highly unusual for a station like WNNJ to be barely scraping along at the bottom of the chart. Perhaps there's some confusion between WNNJ and WNNJ-FM, with survey entries for "WNNJ" being counted towards WNNJ-FM's ratings?
