SWAGGA?

Since the name is obviously meant to appeal to the target demo, are any of the above commenters 18-35 black males?

SWAGGA or SWAG is used in the African American community heavily. As far as using it as the name of the station, very different . This is a first for an Urban station besides the generic HOT,POWER, JAMZ and BEAT brands. STREETZ, THE BOX and THE BLOCK are some newer names used for Urban stations lately.

96.7 The Block is a great station in Elizabeth City, NC. It pops into Myrtle via tropospheric ducting from time to time during the spring/summer.

To me, if the name/term is heavily use, as stated by the last post, I can simply agree. As a Record Collector, I too own quite a bit of "Urban" albums; both older, and recent. What disturbs me, is the same thing that disturbed the late James Brown, several years prior to his death...He was very unhappy with the direction of the music, that was founded by his race: R&B/Funk/Soul. The disrespectful, juvenal, getto culture of Hip-hop/Rap...troubled him greatly. To me, it is just a product of the industry, and true "Urban" programmers should disregard the whims of the record labels, and grant zero(None!) airplay to anything that remotely fits that form. Kanye West's musical talent is as poor as Kim Kardashian's choice in men! Neo is a singer! He doesn't need Pit Bull! Singer, Songwriter, and Musician, Raphael Saadig is the living, breathing ghost of the late David Ruffin, but as good as he is, he couldn't get Urban air play, if his life depended on it. If you can't sing, and all you do is Rap, then you need to be on another station; one that plays just that...and that alone. Al Green, Maurice White,
Diana Ross, and Brian McKnight have Talent! Beyonce has Talent, but her husband don't! EXPOSE THE TRUTH!!
If P. Diddy is a fashion visionary, then I'm...
John Landecker!!

Definition of swagga: One's own unique style or personality that sets them apart from anyone else.

Actually...it's not a word.

So this SWAGGA is another add to word? It's funny that whatever the in thing is is what goes for right now. If this were the 50's Rock & Roll, the 60's The Beatles and other English rock groups, the 70 Rock Music ect... Now it's Hip Hop and Rap and every time it is the music that will never die. I wonder if future generations will look back at this time and wonder What Were They Thinking?

Probably "SWAGGA" was an easy work-around to all of the service marked slogans locked up such as "KISS" etc...

Depending on how it's used I can see the "hook" with the marketing.
For what it's worth, I'm a 56 year old white male with 43 years in the business. Experience as a major market Talent, Programmer, Creative Services Director, and Chief Engineer plus a life long radio listener. Still making money from radio.

It's an interesting line of marketing which applied properly could convey a hip image for the station.. Oh, and I'd service mark the slogan to lock it up... You never know what the next big "buzz" phrase will be...

i wish i were that modest

I was simply explaining that I was not in the demo, had radio experience, and was not a P-1 for the format. If I came off as an egomaniac that was not my intention...

Take heart Jay, I too get the same Horse(sensored), whenever I post or reply. It's just "Little Weenie One-liners" in the big world of serious discussion...or as I said...Horse(sensored)!

It was my first post to this page, so I was a little surprised but hey, my skins thick, like my head LOL.

My response to the previous poster was to clarify I wasn't an A-Hole, as there are far to many in the biz. My original point being I had an educated opinion based on a track record, and I had no dog in this hunt. I do think that the "Swagga" slogan is a pretty neat way of branding around all the stuff currently serviced marked.

If it works service mark it. Who'd have thought "Kiss", "Mix", "Hot", "Jack" etc. would have ever been worth money?

But then again maybe the "drive-by five word posters" have all the answers..that match with their stellar careers behind the microphone at the local drive-thru...
"Ya want Fries wid dat?"
