"Swap Shop" on WCHE

Back from the "should-now-be-off-the-air" WCOJ (damned religion), and the Internet-only Brandywine Radio, the Swap Shop debuted on WCHE today. Hope they generate some revenue so Chester County keeps one live and local station.

All the best to Jay and Randy!

It was nice to hear Ron McNeil on the air today while heading home from work. I hope his new gig works out. Apparently WCHE does not have any dedicated "on air" phone lines and Ron needs a screener who answers the station's regular business number before passing calls thru to the board.

Oh well, that is ok. Best wishes, Ron!

It's a work in progress over there. They finally hired a dedicated sales guy, and are doing some renovation work to the station. They picked up a handful of new talk shows as well.

When does WCHE actually fire up the transmitter each day?

When I drive thru the West Chester area in the morning before 8am, WCHE is not even on the air and WKBW 1520 in Buffalo is still blasting into the area.

IknowwhatIknow said:
Daytimer AMs are only licensed to operate from sunrise to sunset, you probably wouldn't get them much before 8am.

FCC local sunrise times for WCHE are 7:30 in January, 7:00 in February, and 6:15 standard time in March, which means 7:15 now that Daylight Saving Time is in effect. During Critical Hours--the first two hours after sign-on and the last two hours before sunset sign-off--WCHE operates at half the power it uses in the middle of the day but the directional pattern is the same during all daylight hours--a rather loose figure-eight along a southwest to northeast axis. At 8:00AM in the winter, WCHE could be getting buried by skywave from co-channel WWKB in Buffalo, but if you were within a few miles of the transmitter and WCHE was on the air, I think you'd hear it, although the interference from Buffalo might be quite unpleasant.
