SWCast says don't close personal accounts

No offense, but I would be talking to SoundExchange about the status of any negotiations, not simply relying on a statement from the company that's been accused of potential wrongdoing in the first place.

SoundExchange said that, by May 6th, broadcasters must indicate whether they will license direct, or with another 3rd party.

"Staying put" wasn't an option.

Full disclosure - I'm a hobby webcaster, but I also help out with tech support at an SWCast competitor. However, we're full and we have been turning people away.

I really do hope that SWCast gets something worked out - I have friends over there. But if securing coverage with SESAC, SoundExchange, BMI and ASCAP is important to you, it might not be a bad idea to get moving on direct licensing or some other alternative. Things can change, of course, but having a plan is better than no plan.

LCJohn,

You work for Loudcaster/Loudcity? (you've got that in your signature.)

What do you mean by "we're full and we have been turning people away."

Can I set up a new station with you?

I'm LoudCity's tech support guy. LoudCity and Loudcaster are actually completely separate companies, Loudcaster being formed by one of the original founders of LoudCity. I only work with LoudCity, and right now I'm told by the owner that the service is "presently at capacity".

Best bet is to contact companies like Live365, Loudcaster and LoudCity via their websites and see who's able to accept new signups, and what plans are available.

I know LCHJohn, and would take his advice with no holds barred. He knows what Loudcity and Loudcaster can provide, along with other aspects of webcasting. Check with LC or Live365 to see what is available if you need. Obviously SWCast is having problems. Best bet is to look elsewhere until the situation resolves one way or the other.

As of late night Wednesday, the SWCast URL redirects to SoundExchange, and their Facebook page has been disabled (or removed.)

I've been with Loudcaster since February and I like it a lot, RDO. It's different, though. Their hosting is standardized on 32 kbps AAC+, which can sound fine if source files or upstream are very clean. The server based automation is simple, but it overlaps tracks and sounds good. You don't drop listeners by going live, a nice advantage over Live 365.

Ironbear,

You don't drop listeners anymore when going live with Live365, and I'm glad they finally got the seamless mode switching in place. I'm finally able to stream a daily program through Live365 without kicking the listeners off.
