SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA- DON'T YOU WORRY CHILD

Now that the song sits at #2, and is most likely destined to be a #1, it should be noted that this is the first song by a straight up EDM artist to hit the top with the help of a collaborating artist that already had credentials at CHR (I'm thinking David Guetta's hits with Usher, Nicki Minaj, et al).

Its a rather big accomplishment for a genre that has struggled to find mainstream success in the states, but I think it speaks to the genre's viability this go around. Also, I think the rising popularity of both EDM and alternative/pop-rock acts speaks to how badly hip hop is waning on CHR.

Thoughts?

So glad to see this smashing. It wouldn't have hit even the top30 on CHR had it been released during the ghetto years (2003-2008).

Your are so dam right!!!

Its a great record,,, And its gotten a great reponse on my CHR Net Station,, and the funny thing abou that is,, we lean rock...

^I feel like Don't You Worry Child has a rock-sounding vocal line - and it seems LESS dancy to me than Calvin Harris-produced stuff (there's no pitch bending, sliding, etc.)

SHM might be in the dance genre, but this track is pretty much straight pop - at least the radio edit that's most widely played

I also love this track and I'm really pumped at the mainstream success it's having. I agree that it does indeed seem that electronic music and dj based artists are finally making real headway in the U.S. And speaking of great dance tracks with rock type vocals, what about the Afrojack vs Keane remix of "Sovereign Light Cafe". This is easily my favorite dance track of the past year, and I could easily see this one achieving some mainstream success as well if given the chance. I certainly think it would be worth looking at (especially by PD's having success with the Swedish House Mafia track).

Who would have thought a couple of years ago that the #1 song on radio this week would be a Progressive House song from a 3 deejays from Sweden? Amazing.

I'm not usually a "techno" kind of guy, but lately this song has been growing on me. I too was impressed by the success of this single. It's kinda sad that it's their first and last Top 10 single as Swedish House Mafia is going on a "permanent hiatus".

Although "Don't You Worry Child" and "Sweet Nothing" have better vocals to go along with the house beat, I would be curious to know how similar sounding records from the early 2000s would perform if released today. Would tracks such as Daft Punk "One More Time" or Ian Van Dahl "Castles In The Sky" crack the top 10 at CHR if it came out today?

How would what would go on to become popular stadium anthems, such as "Sandstorm" or "Zombie Nation" be received at CHR if it was released in this era?

I think Daft Punk's "one more time" would most likely make it today, especially with its autotune. Ian Van Dahl may have a chance if its sound were mainstreamized a little bit (the way "good feeling/levels" by Avicii was) or if Flo Rida or Pitbull or even Lil Wayne rapped on it or if Ian Van Dahl's vocals were replaced with Rihanna's vocals. Sandstorm / Zombie Nation would (probably) be a little too fast for today's chr generation. Maybe if LMFAO rapped on the Sandstorm instrumental and released it as their own then it might manage to get limited chr play (like "Sorry for Party Rocking" did).
