Sweet 96 KIRP-LP Signs Off

Mike McGuff reported the demise of "Sweet 96" the 17 watt pipsqueek FM licensed to Sugarland, but barely audible there. Signal map = https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KIRP&service=FL
Big loss for the single-digit listeners, here's the article = https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2019/02/sweet-961-in-sugar-land-signs-off.html
It's amazing that these micro-watt commercial ventures ever get on the air in the first place.
Here's the RD link which discussed this signal in 2017 = https://www.radiodiscussions.com/showthread.php?703486-KIRP
As rbrucecarter5 predicted then, "this is bound to be another failed attempt."

After KIRP's move to 96.1 (from 98.3) they appeared to be running too much power...the station would severely interfere with KBLT less than two miles from the Rice campus. The KIRP signal had diminished in the past few months, so maybe a scare got thrown into them after the issues with local translators running excessive power or unauthorized antenna patterns.

Musically KIRP was a train wreck, at least from my very limited listening.
