Syfy 20th Anniversary Special Earlier This Week

Seems like Syfy/Sci-fi Channel broadcast their 20th anniversary special earlier this week with some interesting segments on the more popular shows and series they've aired in the past couple of decades (Stargate, Farscape, Eureka, BSG revamp, etc.)...

I only caught bits and pieces, but considering a number of their quite lacklustre programming decisions and original movie showings, I found some of it a bit too self-congratulatory.

Did anybody else watch the program and if so, what are your thoughts?

I haven't seen it yet but thanks to your post I've set up a recording on my DVR for it. It looks like its on again at 2a/EST on the 14th and then 6p/EST on the 16th.

I noticed "Dark Shadows" and "Mystery Science Theater 3000" were acknowledged during the anniversary program. If it were not for the Sci-Fi Channel, as it was called before it was called Syfy, I would have never been familiar with those programs or ever seen an entire episode of either program.

(all times reflect the Central time zone)

According to Zap2it, the anniversary program was scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14th in addition to 1:00 a.m. As for Sunday, December 16th, it was actually scheduled for 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.

I caught the first half of the late night Thursday/early Friday morning replay (A two-hour show, I think).

Touched on their status as an acquirer of both old school sci-fi/fantasy faves (Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, Lost in Space--briefly had rights to the original Star Wars movies) and the savior of cancelled network shows like Sliders. Stargate SG-1 cast members and writers gave commentary to Sci-Fi's successful transition of the show to a basic cable hit (from a Showtime-exclusive affair)--with both Farscape and Battlestar Galactica getting similar retrospective treatment.

Famed B-movie maker Roger Corman and several actors/actresses also talked about the network's slate of original movies and mini-series, touching on everything from the critically acclaimed (Alice, The Tin Man) to the intentionally cheesy (Sharktopus).

The special focused on the 2000s a good bit from what I saw.
