Syfy Fynds Ratings Spyke After Name Change

According to a press release, "Syfy marked the first month of its new brand identity by scoring its best July ever in its 17-year history among total viewers and women 25–54". It goes on to say that it was the third cable network overall 25-54 the week they changed their branding from SciFi to SyFy.

I guess the question we should be asking about this development is... Who's laughing now?

I am glad they have had the spike but the real test is will it remain. Syfy got a lot of publicity with the change. If the ratings drop again I think you can thank that publicity for the bump.

For me the issue with Syfy has always been their atrocious programming. With shows like Battlestar Galactica and Eureka, they are starting to show they can be more than a geek stop with low budget shows.

No, he likely was just emphasizing the silly idea of the network's name change! I personally see it as their excuse (SYFY) to move away from Science Fiction programming over time.

SyFy did that even before the name change (WWE's ECW comes to mind).
