SyFy's Twilight Zone Marathon

SyFy's Twilight Zone marathon is definitely better this time than it's been in years. They're showing the entire series in order from the begnning stating yesterday morning to the final episode on Sunday morning, incuding the hour long episodes that don't get shown as often and aren't on Netflix. The main shortcoming is that they all have probably been edited to allow for more ads.

A lot of the episodes look like they've been restored to the point that they almost look like they're on video tape. Has that been done recently?

I noticed the same, as I write in a commercial break. Always loved Twilight Zone. I just wish I had remembered it was going to be on! I missed too many episodes this time.

I suspect there may have been edits, they're timing out about right this time. Last time the run was about 35 to 38 minutes per half hour episode thanks to the added commercials.

I watched a few of them today, and yes, the video quality looks very good. I also am reminded what intelligent TV looked like at one time. Most, if not all of these stories had a strong point to make, and this simply is not very evident with today's dramas. No wonder this series has outlasted most others from that era.

I saw one estimate of four minutes being chopped off the half-hour versions and eight minutes off the hour ones. Still, I was getting a little confused, knowing that five episodes had originally been done on videotape and the extremely clear picture makes it seem as if all of them are produced that way.

It's pretty easy to spot the videotaped episodes. They were shot using Image Orthicon camera tubes.
These tubes produce a "orthicon halo" around bright highlights in the picture.

Here is a list of the TZ episodes that were video taped in season 2:

The Lateness of the Hour
Static
The Whole Truth
The Night of the Meek
Twenty Two
Long Distance Call

THe only episode out of them that I like was Night of the Meek.

According to the official World Wide Web site for SyFy, they were set to have the program broadcast in chronological order again after the marathon on an individual basis (for example, the very first episode of the program was set to be part their programming again today).
